Not spending the money could prove very expensive, yes. Theo would have been less of a gamble as he is a proven PL player. Buying a player making headlines in Russia is definitely a punt imo, but we are now in a position where we have to put some money down.
Doesn’t sound like he’s keen on us because of the position we’re in. Fair enoug. Could be a waiting game until the end of the window, and if nobody else comes in for him, we perhaps have a chance. One thing we have in our favour is our record of selling players to the big teams once they’ve proved themselves in the PL. ...surprised Everton haven’t come in for him yet.
Yeah i understand that, every transfer is a gamble. I would have loved Theo as well exactly for the reason you stated, however i think Promes is the type of player who could do really well in our set up and hopefully can hit the ground running.
They got the 'proven premiere league' one. Only one gazzumping of saints per team, per window under FIFA rules. It's obscure but true. Personally didn't feel Walcott was the right one for us IF we sign Promes I think we will have conducted a very canny bit of business. Esp when Walcott breaks after 4 games.
From what I've heard, don't get your hopes up on this one (at all). Carrillo looks more likely but by no means certain - the club are apparently looking elsewhere.
I know deals can be delayed and have problems etc, but surely we must get a signing (hopefully two) in this week to give them the chance to bed in and make the squad for the Brighton game?
Based on his comments in that article I can't see this one happening unless we throw loads of money at him (which seems unlikely with our history). I'm hoping we have another target in mind and haven't only got 2 names on the "Mane Replacement" list which were both pretty unlikely from the start.
Or a clause giving him the option to leave at the end of the season. Six months in the shop window would do him the world of good (would be seen as smith Alderweireld by fans though)
Look at it what ever way you want, but if he joined us in this window I'd be seriously worried about his mental well being! He must have offers from all over Europe?!?
Or not. He would hardly be the first player to pass through our team and we have wondered why someone else didn't take him before we asked an inflated price for him!
During those times we were in the top 8 of the PL with a solid squad with potential of European football, playing under respected managers. Not in the bottom 3 of the PL ,fighting relegation , under a clueless clown.
Just reading an article about Promes and can see he has "Money" tattooed on his fore arm. Safe to say he won't be coming here then http://readsouthampton.com/2018/01/24/saints-hoping-to-wrap-up-30m-promes-deal-this-week/
