I doubt the medical team would have allowed him to play if they thought he was unfit to at least try .. He gave it a go , and I imagine the medical people said no IF he tried to go out again ?

Agnew agrees with me! I said at the beginning that England went into the tests woefully under-prepared having just played two warm up games against teams of indifferent quality. Years ago England would have played some matches against the top state sides. This just does not happen these days. Maybe it is time to turn the clock back with regards to this degree of preparation prior to a test series.

With a considerable part of the 4 day game being played in April, May and September? I believe that or a 3 or 4 week period, the entire game is focussed on the Royal One Day Cup. I could be very wrong but will Hampshire or any other county get more than a couple of thousand for the group matches? And then we have the focus on 20/20!! How did we manage to fit in 2 knockout competitons, the 40 over game and the 3 day game in years past (70s, 80s and 90s) before the onset of the game as we now see it, and have the season done and dusted by the second week of September?
I was there both Saturday and Sunday whilst Saturday was manageable Sunday sat on the concourse it was difficult to breath.
Golf clubs and Bowling clubs here have a cut off temperature that negates play to proceed that is their duty of care why should that
not apply to cricket matches as with other sports.

I am with you....England had to score 20+ at a low rate (below 3 an over) and only 3 wickets down and I was feeling tense. I think it's the double whammy of being an England and a Saints fan. Seen defeat pulled from the jaws of victory too often.
Any how....a win against Aussies is always welcome. Next ODI is 3 am on Friday morning.
An Australian commentator made an interesting comment during the Test matches....he said that when a batsman settles in, he almost mesmerises the bowlers who keep delivering the balls that he wants. The Aussies were drifting to defeat with little energy until Roy was out (for 180 by the way) then seemed to wake up and at least finish with some kind of flourish.

Interesting but unsporting incident in U19 World Cup. Batsman picked up a dead ball and tossed it to a West Indies fielder. West Indies then appealed for obstruction to the umpire and the SA player was given out. May be in the rules, but just not sporting to appeal....nothing the batsman did would have affected the game.

ECB have cleared Ben Stokes to play in the series v NZ on the grounds that the legal case will be long winded and they consider it not proportionate to suspend him that long.
Out of interest I looked up what constituted affray....it is violence directed at 1 or more people where bystanders not involved are in fear of being hurt...such as in a public place or crowded venue. If only the people involved fear being hurt (i.e. the victims) it is not affray. Affray is usually dealt with at a Crown Court so a serious charge.

Cricinfo say that us and Notts lead the race for Northeast. I'd imagine Notts will get him though - having originally thought they had Jennings in the bag from Durham, they presumably have such wage capacity still very much available.
