With his ability, he could have been a major player for us, possibly even a great player. I don't understand why he'd be content with the way his career has gone, even on that money. What about personal pride? What about wanting to achieve something?

He's retired in all but name. If he went someone and they actually put him on the pitch he'd get injured and would actually have to retire for real. Totally agree with this but at least Coleman has now flushed him out and ended his Sunderland career in terms of him playing for us. What's the most Celtic will be willing to pay him? 20k-25k tops? Sounds like the lad wants his money one way or the other. Nobody is going to pay 35k a week for him, so if we do ship him out we could well still be paying the bulk of his wages for the next year and a half.
