Yep. What's our record at mo? £18M? Can't see us breaking the bank (>£20M) for any players that have been mentioned to date. I said before £15M max this window & then only if the board have FULL confidence in MP ...............

£18 mill for Lemina is our current record I believe.

We will have to go significantly above that for a marquee signing this window; and I would argue that a marquee signing is what we need to instil some confidence, send a message, and resurrect our season.

One signing probably won't be enough, however. We either spend some money this window, or we get ready for the Championship.

As for Pellegrino, imo if the club have decided to keep faith with him, they simply have to back him in the transfer market.

Wenger tends to say 'not for sale' for 90% of their players, but then look what usually happens i.e. RVP, Adebayor, Nasri, Fabregas, Vermaelen and so on and so on - Sanchez to be added to that list. So, I tend to take what he says about transfers with a pinch of salt.

What we will see by the end of this window is how committed Walcott is to playing football compared with doing nothing at Arsenal but earning high wages.

It's the world cup this summer and he has 18-months left on his deal. A loan makes perfect sense. Whoever is interested in him won't want to fork out 20m+ with the amount of minutes he's played in recent seasons, so the loan works for whichever club is interested, it gives Walcott the chance to play and earn a world cup place and it also gives him the opportunity to advertise himself to other clubs who could come in for the permanent deal in the summer. This on top of the fact that - if he came here - he wouldn't be contracted to us should we go down. The loan is the only sensible deal for all parties in my opinion.

All parties except possibly the most important one, Arsenal. Makes no sense for them to allow him to leave on loan

You could be right but he is their longest serving player and they know this might be his last chance for a World Cup; added to which he is down the pecking order. Not saying they will be overly sentimental but there is other factors in play here that might have an impact.

It may suit them. They want a high fee that no-one will pay, then they may take a loan fee that sees the player perform and hold a higher market value come the summer.

Say what you like about Shane Long, but the plain fact is he's scored more league goals than Harry Kane this calendar year. And calendar years are all it's about.

Maybe. Although his contract expires in 2019 so he’s unlikely to be worth more in the summer than he is now. Might make sense for them to get a loan fee though. A loan with an option to buy might suit everyone.

Does Walcott, or Sturridge for that matter, really come into that category. For what it is worth, XFC need a player, and a manager, who can connect with the fans. A Rickie Lambert!!!! Now where is this player?

I would take Walcott, probably not Sturridge.

We paid a League 1 record fee for Lambert btw.

Darren Lewis giving us "clog" on talkSport now about Walcott, why would he want to go to Southampton who have little or no ambition and sell all our assets when he could go to a club with real ambition like Everton......from my point of view they can have him

To an outsider though he's probably right.

Bias aside why would you join Saints over Everton?

I could see the appeal if you were a young upcoming player. Our team is worse so more likely to play, we have a history of getting players to big clubs for big sums and easier to move from a club like Saints to one of those big teams than Everton.

For an already established player like Walcott I can't see any footballing/financial reasons to join us over Everton. Only reason would be geographical.

From a footballing or financial perspective, there is no reason.

It could only be for geographical, family, or emotional reasons that he would choose us. But without knowing Theo personally, I don't know whether any of those are strong enough reasons.

Blue. There’s a reason not to join them over us.
