I didn't get to see too much of the Roy Evans era due to the whole internet streaming not being an option and not much on TV here. Wasn't really until end of Houllier reign I really got to start watching much.

TBH its was sort of a similar story mate.

goals flying in at times. folwer got 28 league goals in 1995/96 and 36 in total.... but we are 11 points off utd... we drew more games bascially. that was the year of kevin keegan rant i think.

TBH we were close but never really "close" to utd as we just lacked that bit of steel in the side.

Story of that period is really same as now. one league cup to show for all the effort.

Wasting our time. If he's any good he'll be off to Barca or Real Madrid as soon as he can. Let them develop their own players!

yeah... bit like roy evans tbh.

roy was walked all over by the spice boys. if he had backbone he would imo have won a league.

players were less fit and less disciplined that utd. pure and simple

Roy has fowler at his very best. Mcmanaman...

In 1995/16 we finihsed 3rd and runner sup in fa cup to utd.

That was the cream suit brigade

More disciple and that team could have won things. (but wouldn't have had a fat drunk like ruddock in it)

Redknapp in his prime prob
Mcmanaman
Fowler
collywobbles
mcatter right wing back
john barnes at cm was great on ball but couldn't move

calamity james in goal playing PS all night.
back 3 formation with ruddock and babb and scales
mcateer and bjornebye as wingbacks
midfield 3 of redknapp barnes and macmanaman
folwer and collymore up top with rush stil lthere

A bit more discipline all round for sure. the drive and passion utd had for work and the fitness levels were a step above imo

utd team
schmichel
irwin may pallister p.neville
beckham keane butt giggs
cole cantona

can't tell me that utd with schoeld and neville coming on as well were not fitter but not necessarally better. That utd central partnership v redknapp and barnes...

At that time the story was just one CM and we'd win the league we got ince never happened

then it became just one CB then get get hyppia.. never happened

Then under rafa.. just a wide man... never happened

We get close but we fail to go the extra mile in terms of sacrifice on the field and backing off the field.

IMO under klopp we've a lot of good things but we are making do in far too many areas

My positives:
Kirkby move. Self funding move by building houses. but needs to be underwritten til it pays off. BEST MOVE IN 20 YEARS IMO
Anfield. 4 year payback on main stand. please just do the anfield road end. Anfield is special.
fitness and coaching. Klopps turned a lot of guys round and in terms of mentality and just pure gym work.

my negatives:
making do at LB, GK, CB, CM for 2 years Its unreal. we can all see it.

Why say it in five words when you can use four hundred and twenty seven? :bandit:

Was in general a less competitive era though too. No big money Chelsea or City stealing all the best players from the footballing sides.

Did you count them?

Don't be silly, he can't count that high.

Newcastle are interested in a move for Daniel Sturridge, according to the Chronicle, but face an uphill battle to land the Liverpool man because of his high wages.

The Magpies are looking to land a striker this month as Rafa Benitez aims to bolster his squad. Aleksandar Mitrovic is looking likely to leave and Spanish boss Benitez is keen to recruit more firepower.

However, according to a report from the Chronicle, Newcastle are unlikely to complete a deal for Sturridge because of his wage demands. At this moment in time, the England international is said to be earning £120,000 per week at Anfield, which is simply out of Newcastle’s reach.

Anyone else think the mayor is being a bit inappropriate ranting on about Everton sale of Barkley?

Not really, but the point he's making should have been made by Everton themselves, the drop in price from 6 months ago stinks, but Joe shouldn't use his position as mayor to call the police over it, he's a blue and should have gone through EFC first for answers.

I don't really understand what he's moaning about tbh. With only 6mths left on his contract, the fee was always going to vastly reduce. I'd say they were lucky to get as much as they did!
