I haven’t a clue what the club intends to do, maybe ask COE I hope we keep him, our other strikers are soon to be pensioners! We need a young one. Maybe you could have Ulloa? Edit, I’m sure we’d even chuck in Musa
I wouldn't be overly surprised if we tried for Musa. He has previously been "black box" verified and would give us much needed pace. He can't have worse finishing than Long...can he?!
Almost one third of the transfer window has elapsed. I thought, going by some of MP’s December comments, that we were already in discussion or at least had identified targets. Oh well.....
Clearly all is well in the happy world of St Marys and the pigs are flying gracefully over the pitch...
We are only in a bad moment so this will turn round. moment noun: moment; plural noun: moments; noun: first moment; noun: second moment; noun: third moment; noun: fourth moment 1. a very brief period of time. The clubs idea of a moment is obviously a year.
It’s a tough call. We wanted the VVD money up front so we could buy but when people know that, the price goes up. Securing signatures at the end of the window and not being taken to the cleaners seems an obvious call to me
It's always the same thing with our board though. We say we have targets & are working hard on deals in the build up to the window - but then nothing happens until late in the window. I understand that these things can take time, and it does happen to other clubs too. I'm struggling to think of one occasion where we went out and got our targets in early. Look at the Alderweireld deal - that could have been done from January 2015, but we left it too late and enabled Spurs to come in on the deal. We're so ponderous in the market.
I think we are kidding ourselves if we ever thought Alderweireld wanted a permanent contract with us. He wanted to be put in the shop window and we obliged. It was a delight to watch him in a Saints shirt but he was never going to stay. I share your general frustrations about transfers. Of course this is a rare excursion into the January transfer market for us. We normally leave it to those with more money than sense or those throwing a last roll of the dice to avoid relegation....
Put it this way, I think most Leicester fans would tackle the M25 and journey from Leicester to Southampton on a Friday afternoon to drive him to you themselves I’ll let you make your mind up on him based on that
I'm sure I read at the time that he would have signed for us if we sorted the deal out before Spurs came on the scene, which wasn't until May time. It's not a rare excursion in to January for us. We've signed players in January every year since promotion, apart from the first season back.
I stand corrected - although I always think there is a desire to avoid January unless someone special becomes available at the right price.
If we filled the obvious gaps in the summer we wouldn't be in this situation. We can't avoid January, and we will likely have to pay a premium. The board only have themselves to blame for that.
Tbf he’s another one who hasn’t really taken his chance at us. If he or Iheanacho played for you watch them be world beaters
I think we could probably have got Alderweireld's signature on a contract if we'd moved quickly. He probably wouldn't still be here now, but he looks to me like one that got away, because we were trying to be too smart..
Yeah, that's how I saw it. He would have left the next summer for a big fee mind, so I certainly don't dwell on it. We don't need money, we need stability.
