  • Liverpool look set to lose Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona
  • Garth Crooks has some bizarre transfer advice for the Reds
  • Crooks suggests paying as much as £45million for defender Lewis Dunk
Liverpool should offer Brighton £45million for the transfer of defender Lewis Dunk, according to some wacky advice from eccentric BBC Sport pundit Garth Crooks.

The Reds could soon have plenty to spend in the transfer market as TeamTalk rounded up a number of Spanish media outlets claiming a deal to take Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona was nearly done.

Crooks is aware of Barcelona’s interest in Coutinho and also commented on how well the Brazilian has played recently despite all the speculation over his future.

Still, despite Liverpool already forking out big money for a defender this January in the form of Virgil van Dijk, Crooks urged them to follow that up with the signing of Dunk as well, as he believes the 26-year-old has been superb for Brighton.

how old is this story? last weekends?

Garth finally got out of bed this week and piped up?

So looks like Coutinho is likely to leave in January, and Can has agreed to join Juve in the summer.

I hope we have some good replacements in mind.

Agree with the club about not selling Can now, instead keeping him till summer.

Shame he’s going, has lots of potential but is very hot and miss and Keita is an upgrade on him. Just still need more CM to add quality depth though as still limited in that area.

Don't worry, we're going to sign De Vrij and combine the Netherlands CB pairing.....they reached the great heights of nearly qualifying for the World Cup. Well not even nearly. But what a pairing <yikes>

Means we need a forward and a CM to stand still.

So De Vrij

Couthino replacement

Can replacement

Then add Keita.

Plus a keeper

And a LB

And a #6

4 more and we have a full team <laugh>

The ideal would have been Can as 6, and Keita as B2B.

Losing Coutinho means we lose our most creative CM (only creative CM) and losing Can means we lose our best defensive midfielder.

So frustrating because we’ve signed Keita but now need to sign two more quality CM’s and rebuild.

And without the right midfielders we can spend whatever we want on defenders but it'll make little difference....perhaps with the exception of on set pieces. I'd spend the entire Couthino money on the 2 midfielders. Then next years budget on a GK and LB and hope to get De Vrij on a free. Would be a massive plus to pick up a quality midfielder like Goretzka on a free too.

Neither of which are best in those positions. Maybe we'll be better one we have players that are dedicated to those roles?

Has anyone bid for Markovic, Sturridge or Ings yet?? Need to get these guys off our books!
Only one there likely to go sadly is ings.

Be the last one I would want off the books out the 3 lol.

Markovic I can see running down contract same as sturridge.

How long was his contract for? Feels like we've had him 10 years already.
