Yes I meant the board. What has changed in the 6 months though? That is my main point, he hasn't played poorly or refused to play. He is apparently having another strop now the window is open and teams still want him, so why are you/others happy to sell now, but weren't in the summer? People do/have criticized the board for selling our best players, I wasn't one of them. Sure it was frustrating but I could see that we had little option, this was the same with VVD. If the money was re-invested then we could be having a much better season without VVD and another couple of players bought with the money raised from selling him.
I thought I’d said why, but to clarify it, I think he Board were right not to sell in the summer because we were being called a “selling club” and we took the stance to say that we weren’t. The board said no and we all hoped Virgil would do as Morgan did. Clearly he isn’t going to do that for a year because it seems he has thrown another strop and so this tells me it is not going to work out the same as Morgan, so sell him. This is why I am saying ok sell him now. Morgan didn’t strop in the January window. Virgil is. I agree that money could have been re-invested in the summer, but I am also saying that I understood the board’s stance. It was not a wrong decision but a calculated decision.
Yeah this basically. I was one who didn't think we should sell under any circumstances in the summer and was pretty vocal about it too. With hindsight it hasn't worked out but that doesn't mean it was a bad/wrong decision, just that it was always a bit of a gamble and this time it hasn't paid off. I do think it's been well overstated by some about his lack of commitment etc. And I've had no issues with him on that front. I do think we should probably sell now if City meet our valuation but I don't think we should entertainin offers from Liverpool whatsoever.
The only thing here is that the club got in a tizz over principle and conduct popularly known as tapping up. They created a real stink and were absolutely correct to do so and to refuse to sell to Liverpool. To backtrack on that now is a real embarrassment. Sell to anyone but them and it was worth it, sell to those twats and it was just pointless bluster and it will hurt us more in the long run. Hey everyone, do whatever you want, tap up all our players, we will cave in and sell to you anyway, but do it now so you dont miss out in the summer once our pointless outrage has subsided.
What has changed since the summer is asked? Two things....new owners have had a chance to settle in and have a view on things and things aren't good on the pitch. I can see why it may suit us/the owners to sell now....but only if money is invested in January.
If, as seems likely, Virgil goes to City, it appears they have this shortarsed Argentinian striker who has been told he can leave. Straight swap?
I was all for keeping VVD to make a statement. I wouldn’t have had him anywhere near the first team though, think I was right. After a couple of matches he was put right back in, ridiculous. Took puncheon half a season on loan to get with the program, what did we think would happen? Personally I would find a reason to ban him from club facilities, sell in summer. After the way he’s behaved he doesn’t deserve to train with the u23’s. We are not desperate for CB’s and can use the money better in the summer.
Putting VVD to one side, I can see Sturridge looking for a move this January, especially if he has a desire to make the World Cup squad. Could be a good loan option for us, especially if Austin is for longer than a month
Personally I don’t really care where VVD goes tbh as long as we get a shed load of dosh for the privilege. He doesn’t want to be here,he did the same with Celtic and he will do the same again no doubt. No player nowadays has many morals when it comes to earning vast sums of money so good riddance VVD as far as I’m concerned. My only concern is is Les Reed going to mess this one up and we get this transfer window wrong. Replace Pelle, replace Mane properly and we wouldn’t be in the mess we are in. Invest in a manager that’s going to get the best out of the starting 11 and the squad and we wouldn’t be struggling. Mr Reed you have questions to answer and hopefully you will answer them this Jan window.
I may be wrong but I thought the scousers were talking $48m in the summer, so if nothing else we have shown we won't be shafted on fees when players still have a significant contract
Dembele going for £18m? In the current market, that’s fantastic business for Brighton. Would be delighted with him here. Merry Xmas everyone though.
Sounds like they are making it public to start a bidding war. We won't be involved despite Celtic being our feeder club
Yeah I don't see us making a move for him, as I've said before I can't see us doing much/anything this window.
