----------Austin------
---Tadic Boufal JWP
----Lemina Romeu--
Berty-VvD-Yoshi-Cedric

Went for Romeu as he's probably fresher than Hojbjerg, and Yoshi as he will also be fresher and we need a captain with no Davis.

1 - 3 to Saints

Yet you drop our best CB for the last two games? Hmm....

Agreed with that otherwise (though I'd be perfectly happy to see Gabbi in).

I'm not a massive believer in 'best'.

On the assumption we need either Davis or Yoshi to captain, i would rather drop a CB for Yoshi than one of our attackers for Davis. I went with Virgil's dominance in the air over Hoedt's passing. Not going into a meltdown if Hoedt gets played though :emoticon-0102-bigsm.

As this is going to be a tight away fixture I am sticking to back 5

Forster
Cedric-VVD-Stephens-Hoedt-Bertrand
PEH-Romeu
JWP-Austin-Boufal

Swopped Yoshie for Stephens as I thought he was caught out a feew times last night & Stephens needs game time
Left Lemina out of starting line up as he still doesn't look fully fit & don't think we need 3 DMs for Bompey so add JWP for his deadfall delivery and Boufal for Redmond who was anonymous last night apart from being picked on by Guardiola

Hmm...I know it's a moot point, but it gives us something to talk about - I don't think Virgil is any better in the air than Wesley. In fact I'd say that Wesley might even edge that one. Given your choices I'd have Wes in there instead of Yoshi and give the captaincy to JWP.

It could just be the role theyre being asked to play, but statistically, Virgil is averaging 3 or 4 times more aerial duels won than Hoedt.

Hmm fair enough, that surprises me to be honest. I've actually seen VVD caught out in a couple of aerial duels this season (which has surprised me as I just never remember him losing a header pre-injury) whereas I always feel very confident with an aerial ball headed towards Wes.

They're both bloody good in the air, let's be honest.

Southampton are moving in the right direction - they've had two good performances, although the City defeat will have been disheartening. They could've got a draw. Bournemouth's defeat to Burnley was a bad result for them. I think Southampton can get the win.

Paul Merson predicts 1-2

Forster, Cedric, Van Dijk, Hoedt, Bertrand, Romeu, Lemina, Hojbjerg, Ward-Prowse, Boufal, Austin.

Could add in Tadic to that or Davis.

Repeat of last seasons score, 3-1 Saints.
