'Trial by Social Media' is one of the worst aspects of modern society. I do, however, understand the need to encourage other victims to come forward. If there's smoke without fire then the accused can still regain their innocence, like Ken Barlow and Cliff Richard. At least now we're catching people when they're still alive before they escape scot-free, a la Savile.
Mebbe it's cos I'm an old git; the first thing that sprang to mind when I heard about the Spacey thing was 'what's a 14 year old child doing at an adults party?' Tt doesn't excuse his perverted behaviour towards a minor but, what kind of parents did/does the boy have?
Agree with this, however, it's still a heavy dilemma in my book. Must be rough as **** if you're innocent, even if you clear your name - some people will always hold it against you.
Now it a Tory MP who touched someones knee. Followed it up by sending a suggestive text to the woman after she appeared in a magazine wearing a corset. Ffs woman just tell him to **** off.
I don't think you ever can fully clear your name, just the insinuation that arrives from being accused in the first place is usually enough.
Not wishing to condone serious offenders but perhaps many of these examples, especially historical would not have been considered too much of a problem by either party in the past. Some of the latest revelations also seem to smack of sensationalism and jumping on the bandwagonism. Mrs 2008, still pretty fit after all these years agrees and wishes she had a pound for every time she had her bum pinched over the years.
One on the list condemning people for "inappropriate behaviour" was a woman who had a relationship with a male colleague after her divorce came through. FFS.
I don't know why people are surprised, Hollywood has always been a horrible place with this sort of **** happening since the film industry was born. It was a 'secret' everyone knew but nobody could seem to get out because of the scum at the top. Thank **** it's all unravelling now for ****s like Weinstein.
15 years before, the leg incident. However on tbe other side sexist and homophbic remarks are forgiven and the perpetrator is courageous for admitting to them. Funny old world.
No ****. I've never said otherwise. He did some ****ty things - apologies for still liking his body of work. Not sure why you've brought him up, probably a vain attempt to rile me.
I think what the moral brigade forget to point out is that woman have been validating this behavior to get ahead in their careers since the film industry was born. If they're willing to sleep with a director to get the part over a better actress than that reflects just as badly on her morals as it does on his. Not everyone at the top got there by sleeping with people, some actually worked hard and had talent.
Absolutely, Hollywood has always been a place where even if you're good enough, the people who you work for can replace you just like that if you don't play ball, and a lot of people will happily play ball if it equals them getting the part over someone else. The way Hollywood works is more akin to the military than a normal job. You get your part, you play it no questions asked, if you refuse, you get ****ed off and replaced. There's no true full time job as actors are looking for new work the instant shooting wraps up meaning they are always looking to get in the door.
Just showing how funny things are. Ched Evans was castigated by people on here, including I believe yourself, for having a relationship, not involving full sex with a 15 year old. Bowie had full sex with a number of 15 year olds and, it was claimed 13 year olds and never received the same condemnation when it was announced. Presumably people still should be able to admire the body of work of Weinstein. I wasn't trying to rile you, despite your paranoia, just pointing out the different reactions to some people acting badly. If .I had been trying to rile you, however, it appears it wasn't in vain.
Actually I was on the fence about Ched Evans. I never thought there was enough evidence and what there was was a bit dodgy. EDIT: BTW, I think you're mixing up Ched Evans and Adam Johnson, who NOBODY defended and rightly so. There are obviously exceptions to the rule, as with everything. I never suggested anything about 'greats', I'm on about Hollywood's film industry as a whole, which has had millions of people through it's gates.
