Very thin line between saying ''If you don't have sex with me something nasty will happen'' and ''If you do have sex with me something nice will happen'' ie. promotion at work, better grades for a student, direct money payment etc. The last cases are all cases of prostitution no different to what happens on the Reeperbahn, though less honest. In the first cases - if physical danger is involved, or if the woman is inebriated at the time (through whatever cause) and incapable of rational consent, then it is rape - if not eg. 'do it or I will destroy your career' then it is not technically rape but surely qualifies as criminal nonetheless, almost in the same way that blackmail could be used as a lever.

If an executive tells someone that having sex with them will be good for their career, anyone can understand the implied threat is that declining sex means the executive will do the opposite.

And so an unspoken and implied threat is good enough to convict someone of rape? How do you distinguish that from a situation where the woman sets out to have sex with the producer to enhance her career eg Marilyn Monroe, and then changes her mind when her boyfriend finds out and cries rape?

Actually, Goldie, I'm not trying to define rape or I'd have used the word. I am merely pointing out that we don't always need an explicitly-spoken threat to know when we're being threatened. No more, no less.
Rape has a legal definition in this country. I don't know what the definition is. I do know coercion when I hear it and so do you, surely? Especially when you DON'T hear it but it is clearly implied by the circumstances?
Rape in the UK is penetration without consent. US appears to adopt a similar definition. You're right about implied threat, BD, but evidentially, a jury would struggle to convict for rape without more imo. If a victim said - I don't want to do this or I'm being forced to do this - that would be enough, although it's his word against hers. Getting back to Weinstein, in the absence of threat or express promise, if a woman submits to sex without qualification, I doubt a jury would convict. I suspect ultimately claims against him will be for sexual assault not rape.
Interestingly one of his victims was offered $1million for her silence. Did she take that to the police or the press? No, she counterclaimed for $6 million. That's Hollywood.

What are you seeing in Catalonia? I have the impression that it’s a very deeply divided place. Saw a poll in the paper taken last week where only 30 something % wanted independence but a very big majority wanted a legal referendum on it. If the Spanish government had allowed that in the first place I suspect they would not be in this fiasco.

If a woman is put in the position where she feels she can’t say no, despite not wanting to say yes, then that’s coercion and therefore rape, according to the law.
Whether that’s for fear of repercussions, or physical / mental intimidation, or through impairment of any kind, doesn’t matter.
Weinstein, from the reports, coerced actresses into having sex when they clearly didn’t want to, by using his power and reputation to make them believe that the key to a career was in submitting.

I genuinely didn’t have Brexit in mind on Catalonia though. On your point to DT about the Spanish having a go at each other, my brother told me that my sister in law (half Andalusian, half Galician, go figure) was treated like **** in Barcelona when she spoke Spanish, whereas he, with perfect Spanish (better than his English, which is now a bit odd, been there 25 years and is a translator) was made to feel very welcome (obviously he still has something about his accent). Mind you my brother mocks rural Spanish accents, though he saves his most extreme bile for South Americans. I think he’s more Spanish, or Madridleno, than anything else now, even down to the endemic hypochondria “I have a chill on my liver, better go to the hospital!’
