U20s World Champions...........now the U17s. Other age groups winning big tournaments and getting to major finals. No England U17s have been passed the quarters before.

England's future is very bright.

5-2 now. Well done lads!!
 
Now these kids need to get some first team experience at their clubs to progress, instead of being kept in reserve/academy teams
 
What a comeback and playing with such style and freedom. The pass setting up that 5th goal was sublime and Foden finished it in style, a Premier League quality goal worthy of the occasion. It would be a shame to let Southgate anywhere near this team...

I quite like Southgate.

Clubs need to show the intent for giving these lads a chance. Maybe quotas for overseas players?

Or let these players play abroad in more technical leagues, and just save them for internationals. The comfort and confidence on the ball, and willingness to take risks was a stark contrast to ‘senior’ English pros, for the most part.

Southgate is just too negative with his safety first tactics. The U17s won in style because they were encouraged to express themselves and not shackled by negativity. There's a message there...

Interesting fact I’ve just read. In the season they turned 20 the 1966 World Cup winning team made a collective 263 first team appearances for their clubs, all of them in the first division except for Jack Charlton.

The current England U20 World Cup winning side made a grand total of 11 first team appearances, 6 of these for Dominic Calvert Lewin at Everton, where Koeman also gave a game to Jon Joe Kenny. Koeman has been sacked.

Not looking good, though Guardiola has said that Phil Foden, player of the U17s tournament, would have played for City in the League Cup, but the club thought it was better for him to go to India.

Guardiola certainly gives young players a chance, looking at the amounts he paid to bring in players like Jesus shows he believes in 'moulding' players into his ideals from a young age. I'm sure Foden will be a first team regular within two years if he continues at his present rate. Of the others I'm not so sure, you only have to look at Chelsea's form in youth development to know that their youngsters biggest hurdle is actually overcoming the bias towards big name players that has driven their success in recent years...
