OK, we all like to play manager, and we all know where we need players. LB (left footed) LW (Left footed) Striker (preferably PL experience and can/could score 20+ league Goals) We got 24 million from the Bent sale, granted its in installments, and we owed spurs 6 million of that. We got 16 million + addons for Henderson. We spent i think 24 million in the close season. I believe sky gives us between 33 and 40 million per season so thats 120 million for the last 3 seasons. Wages take most of this though Bruce has an outlay of 17 million on transfers since he come to the club (which isnt bad going). So lets say Short was willing to (not saying he will) put his hand in his pocket. We are not going to get a younger striker that can knock in 20 goals a season, they go for 35 million, and wages way out of our league. LB you are looking for at least 5 million, maybe rising to 10, but i dont have a clue who is out there, and who would want to come. only one i can even think of is Răzvan Raţ but he is 30 now. LW, they dont grow on trees, especially not a left footed one, I havnt got a clue on this one i have to say, but you are probably looking at 8-13 million for a decent one. Striker, only one is Defoe who is the poacher type, members are saying Bellamy, I just dont see him as the type we need 15-20 goal a season man, maybe we can get Defoe for 10-12 million (I would pick pav personally but dont think we have any chance with him). So you are looking realistcally at 20 million on the cheapish side, or 35 million on the expensive side of the coin. That will mean Ellis putting his hand in his pocket, with another interest free loan, but then that gets counted with the Euro finance stuff, if we got all 3 now though, we probably would not need to buy that much in January or for the next 2 seasons. It would also put bums on seats in the stadium, maybe we wouldnt fill it, but it would get an extra 5,000 back for me. I personally think we have to push the boat out and get them in, but then, I am not the one with the £££££. I dont know the perfect answer, but surely we cant go with no proper left side at all, and the strikers we have.
Krancjar is right footed though, and he had a blinder the other night, in the CM position, we may as well Stick vaughen on LW for me. Sturidge, maybe, dont think he is a 20 goal a season striker though (at least not yet, if he was Chelsea would play him). And you are probably looking at 2 loans there, that leaves us in the same ****e as last year, get a few injuries and we are snookered, cant bring anyone in, as you are only allowed 2 from the PL.
Defo a LB. Wether it's the fault of SB, Ricco or the tea lady. That man should never ever be playing at LB.
Warnock down at Villa, he's a canny l/b, and has had disputes recently. Shouldn't cost a fortune. L/w how about Matt Jarvis at wolves... Striker, love it to be Sturridge, but could cost a fortune, so Defoe is a pretty good alternative.
What do people think of Martin Olsson of Blackburn? Natural left-sided player, can play LB and LW, a good burst of pace and a direct runner.
Morten Gamst Pedersen is better at Blackburn a solid left midfielder with a sweet left foot, a lot like Seb but obviously left footed, wouldn't cost the earth but would improve us. We need a big fecker upfront simple as that. Many may disagree but for me bruces biggest mistake was selling Kenwyne Jones.
Oh Christ that KJ debate again. He is a useless plank and we did well to get the money we did for him. We dont need him we need better. Much better.
Kenwyne is quality and we miss him big time. His league tally over the past 4 seasons is 7, 10,9,9. He does score goals and what he does for the team is invaluable. Find me a striker in that mould that scores many more than that who sunderland could get. we sold him.for basically 6m. We paid 8m upfront for wickham.
