.... if we had taken our chances the game could have been over by half time. What we should be looking at are the two underlying issues that, if not resolved, could ruin this season. First, despite reasonable peformances from Cattermole and Colback, they are very similar in their roles. It was good to see Colback make some clever runs into the channels and create chances. However, we still lack the craft of a central midfielder who can pick the pass that will unlock a defence and create a genuine chance that a good forward (e.g. Bent or Phillips) would gobble up. Which leads me onto the second issue. We need to replace Bent, they (Bruce and Quinn) said they would spend what ever it took to replace him with a quality striker ..... we have not done it! Yes, Whickham and Ji are great investments for the future, and yes Sessegnon can play off the front man and yes, on his day Gyan is world class. But, what happens when Gyan is injured or loses form, where is the competition or the instant replacement that can score goals for us? Simple we haven't got one. Until these two issues are fully addressed we will continue to be a mid table team that will surprise us with good results against the quality teams, but also dissappoint us like today. We have around 10 days to sort this, come on Short, Quinn and Bruce, get it sorted.
Shame Bruce has come out and said "it's unlikely we'll get anymore" Cos everything you have said is correct.
3 derby games 3 hideous performances 2 defeats and 1 of them a thrashing 1 last gasp equaliser Bruce the mag wins again We all knew we have needed a striker since January; we all know we have needed either a left back or a right back (with Bardo at left back) for 2 or 3 years; we all knew we needed a left winger this summer, so that Larsson isn't playing out of position but absolutely NONE of these have been addressed. Instead, we are back to the round pegs and square holes syndrome again and its ****e. What has Bruce learned from last season **** up? **** all thats what. Another season of dire, relegation threatening performances loom large and wide, not form the lack of good players but from the lack of intelligence and tactical ability of the daft prick in charge, to formulate a clever plan capable of delivering more than just a lumbering boredom upon us. Why havent people rushed back to watch us under Bruce's management Niall? Because the football is predictable ****e. Thats why. What sort of fist would Martin O Neill make of our squad? A damned sight better one than the useless ****er we have in charge thats for sure. Bruce HAS to go and soon as possible please.
Don't think you'll be bringing in another striker now Bruce has discovered that he likes Sessegnon in that role. He might have a point to be fair. Sessegnon was extremely threatening today.
Gyan must have a partner, whether that partner is already in the squad (Ji, Wickham) i don't know. There's a number of people getting onto Gyan now but i rate the lad really highly and do not blame him for today's loss. Sessegnon has been brilliant but a Sess/Gyan combo is much of a muchness. Sessegnon can continue to be brilliant on the wing. I think we'd have killed Newcastle today if we'd had Gyan a proper quality partner.
Gyan has only ever been a 1 in 3 striker throughout his ENTIRE career. I don't know why some mackems overestimate him and think he's going to be a Bent-like goal machine. In fact, if you guys want Europe, I don't think he's good enough to lead the line.
In what way was last season a **** up? I'm sure we finished tenth. As for people not rushing back to the SOL. Isn't there a recession on? Call me stupid but most sensible people will put silly things like rent, food and family before Football.
Whilst i would have agreed with this anyway, i'm guessing a few more people are starting to think the same.
