Dunno, but that's what the guardian reported (admittedly i havent' done my due diligence on their source) but they have a slant of making it look like gun crime is far worse than it is (even if i am against guns, i like my stats to be as objective as possible) such as the 40,000 deaths because of gun crime when in reality only 11,000 murders are with firearms (potentially another 5k MAX with manslaughter although the FBI don't give how the manslaughter arises).

Suggests that 24k firearm deaths are from suicide or accidental death.

Anyway, regardless of which, 150 mil guns between 9 mil is around 17 guns per person, not beyond the realm of possibility of people like to have collections of guns. Would not surprise me at all.

Sorry, but unless they're counting the guns in possession of the police etc, I don't buy that stat at all.

I lived there for four years and even hunting enthusiasts mostly have 3-4 guns max.

You get professional shooters and collectors that vastly unbalance the numbers, though.
3-4 for a hunter sounds a little low, too. They probably have that many for different kinds of shoots, let alone other stuff.

presumably at those trade shows as well you have someone whos selling all these guns privately?

Maybe a few. But I still don't buy that 150mill guns are owned by just 9mill.

That 3% supposedly own between 8 and 140 guns each. 140! <laugh>
It's like collecting anything else though, I guess. 140 albums doesn't sound like that much. 140 pairs of shoes wouldn't surprise me.

Yeah but albums are like a tenner, shoes are like 50 quid.

Guns are worth hundreds/thousands.

I'm trying to think of something similar to compare. Golf clubs, maybe? Watches? **** knows.
I guess it's like anything that retains or increases in value. If you're buying collectable items, then it's an investment.

I read something a while back about the average red neck who had a gun, had on average about 8.

Go 'Murica

There are almost certainly 100's of thousands of illegally held guns in the USA. Probably millions...

Agreed. The seeming ease at which Paddock amassed an arsenal of automatic weapons suggests that there are loads of unaccounted for guns in the US.

There's no evidence that any of them were automatic or illegally acquired, is there?
