I say, team, two do jump off the old page and poke you in the eye of the morrow. Them being PURSER (2.25 Lingfield) and in the hedge hopping sphere, SCEAU ROYAL (3.20 Warwick).

The former won his maiden well before running a fair 4th in the Group 3 ‘Solario’ at Sandown (had excuses as well as a gap closed at a key moment for the old boy). Takes a big step down in grade tomorrow to class 5 company and although he has to concede weight all round Purser really should be too good. Eye-catchingly this is also Rab Havlin’s return ride following many months on the sidelines due to, how do I put this diplomatically…ummmmm…'unfortunate circumstances'. Cor blimey had he been a trainer he could have blamed the vet! Nudge, nudge, wink, wink, say no more…

The latter was a very decent hurdler (Grade 2 winner, Champion Hurdle 6th, peak rating of 155) but now switches his attentions to the big, I say big, ‘uns. If transferring that level of performance to fences then the ‘Wiltshire Wonder’ should be quite a force in that domain. An exciting prospect who should start his term with a win.

From a betting prospective these advices reek of a ‘double’ or as one of those terrible Cock-ennnnn-nee types might proclaim, ‘A Barney Rubble’. On closer inspection of the prices available (none available at the time of writing) a decision will need to be taken if this is the way to proceed.

    Good luck all.

Did Rab really say (as quoted) "I've got to crack on from where I left off" ? Either way, let's hope that Purser gives him that much-needed shot in the arm.

I wish them all the best with Sceau Royal but I can’t help feeling this is yet another horse who wasn’t quite top notch over hurdles so they are going novice chasing with him. Much as Prddlers Cross, Rock on Ruby, Oscar Whiskey er al weren’t natural chasing types, I have my doubts that Sceau Royal can go to the top over fences and just hope he doesn’t end up like poor old Oscar Whiskey. If he were mine I would use the winter ground (which he hates) to get his hurdles mark down and then aim him at one of the big handicap hurdles at Aintree or Sandown in spring. Takes a bit more thinking about than just chucking him over fences but in the long run likely to be more profitable and, I contest, better for the horse.

2nd day off sick with a wretched cold. Miserable weather here in Berlin, pissing it down with gale force winds, so the plan for this afternoon is to get RUK up on the old laptop and check out Huntingdon and Warwick to see if there are any decent novices on show. My main concern is whether the commentator will manage to pronounce correctly the name of horse number 4 in the bumper at Huntingdon.

Gute Besserung, Oddy! Sunny down here, but very windy.

:emoticon-0100-smile You know this #4 Horse could possibly be in the mix too, although the average winning distance of the sire's progeny at 15.2f seems a bit high for the distance of this bumper, but the rest of the breeding appears to be good. For example, his best offspring atm is Wireless who has done quite well at a mile. So it's hard to say; they're all debs anyway so no bet for me, unless Stick has something special!

Ryan moore has three opportunities to let his followers down tonight at Chelmsford.

I'm on in a treble in the hppe he'll actually get all home in first.

Managed to succeed by not having a bet for nearly 4 weeks now but today I'm going to have a bet on AVIATOR in the 3.50 War. Been a lot of support for this one and I think he has a very good chance of going close, taken the 13/2.

    I haven't had a bet since Aintree <ok> :)

4 weeks is good though - nothing took your fancy or are you trying to stop altogether Mick?

That's good going Oddy. I just went through a spell of no luck like getting beat in a photo finish or doing ew shots that came 1 place outside the places etc. Just decided to not have a bet for the remainder of the month and just watch instead. TBH there hasn't been much I've fancied either.

I like the look of the eleventh richest man in Wales' horse in the next at Warwick. Jabulani won his maiden bumper at Ffos Las and then finished 5th at the same venue trying to give weight to what on paper looked to be some smart rivals. They just said on RUK he might need the run (based on the paddock looks) but one to keep an eye on.
