Dear Rickie,

Please join SFC as coaching staff. Mainly in the goal scoring department.

LEGEND.

On line petition, anyone?

If we get enough hits the government has to act. St Theresa should raise the issue of Rickie's unemployed status at the Tory conference and speak to Les today!

Thank you Rickie for wearing the Saints shirt with the utmost pride, thank you for the memories, thank you for the goals, but most of all thank you for being a complete gent.
Would love to see you return to your SMS where you rightly deserve you're status as one of our heroes.
Thank you Rickie, thank you Mr Pardew for bringing him here.

Sir Matt Le Tiss scoring the last goal at the Dell and Sir Ricky Lambert scoring against Scotland were two of my most emotional moments as a Saints fan. Hope He comes back to the club in some capacity, We could do with a bit of cheering up.
Same here. Probably the two moments that actually got me emotional (in a good way) through a 50 year period of following Saints.

My first two thoughts when I heard the news are very much covered here by others:

1. Thanks for everything Rickie. Enjoy your retirement, you absolutely legend.

2. Les, MP, whoever; get on the phone to Rickie asap and offer him a job on the coaching staff. Ideally as a striker's coach.

Bugger this talk of bringing back as a coach - get him back and give him a shirt - l swear he would get some goals for us and create more in the final third than what turns out for us at the moment.

Failing which; shooting coach please!

Brilliant guy and a legend. One of the guys I didn't mind moving on as he had given so much.

Get him here as a coach though

Target man, holding up the ball, linking play, positioning, attacking the far post, technique, passing, long range shooting, heading and chesting, free kicks, penalties and calm finishing....

Yeah, I think its fair to say that Rickie would have something to offer as a coach.

Bought from Bristol Rovers for £1m when we were in the 1st Div and yet went on to score 28 goals in 2 seasons in the EPL.
Why can't we just do that again? <wah>

I loved the way he could collect the ball and pause a game briefly before picking and executing the perfect pass
I loved the way every penalty was in before he even took it
I loved the way he was always on the far post when he was needed
I loved that he was a really nice guy and through his effort and determination (and god given skills) he ended up playing in the EPL with us and scoring for England
He was a real world Roy of the Rovers

As others have said he is up there with the very best Saints legands of all time. It always annoyed me when the TV 'experts' described him as a big old lump that will get you goals, as we know he was much, much more than that?
Rickie was a very, very good player and a top bloke.
Love to see him come home.
