The two sides have only ever met three times in competitive fixtures and Rangers are yet to record a victory over the Brewers. Ollie will be looking for revenge over Nigel Clough’s side after they won 2-1 in W12 last season in a game which the R’s gaffer later admitted to getting the team selection wrong. Burton Albion are undoubtedly going through the best period of the club’s 67 year history. It’s easy to forget that up until 2009 the Brewers had never played in the Football League. Burton’s rise to the top is one of football’s great stories and last season they once again defied the odds and beat relegation finishing in 20th position. Their promotion a season earlier was also a big shock but Burton have developed a reputation of being serial over-achievers in recent years. Rangers ex manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink began the trend leading the east Staffordshire outfit to champions of League Two back in 2015. Jimmy left the Brewers in good shape when taking over at QPR in December of that year before Nigel Clough completed the job of guiding them to back to back promotions. Having stayed in the league, Burton are now looking to establish themselves as a Championship team but know they face an uphill task. They lost their star player Jackson Irvine in the summer to Hull City and have one of the lowest budgets out of all the teams in the Championship. However, coming across difficult challenges is not something that seems to faze this football club and in all fairness they did manage to do some exciting business themselves including bringing in club record signing Liam Boyce who was the top goal-scorer with 24 strikes in the SPL for Ross County last season. Burton made a slow start to the campaign, losing their first three league games but have picked up in recent weeks having only lost one of their last five matches but are struggling to score goals with only bottom clubs Birmingham and Bolton scoring less. They come into this game in good spirits having beaten Fulham 2-1 last weekend but chose to play a much weakened side against Manchester United at Old Trafford in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday where they lost 4-1. Rangers will be happy to be back at Loftus Road after defeat at Middlesbrough last Saturday. The R’s haven’t got going on the road this season but their home form has been very good and Ollie will undoubtedly see Saturday as a great opportunity to get another victory. New signing David Wheeler opened his account at Riverside and Jamie Mackie continued his good run of form when coming off the bench. But having conceded five goals in the last two games the R’s gaffer will be hoping for a better defensive performance from his side who have only kept one clean sheet all season. please log in to view this image When and Where? Saturday, 23rd September 2017 - Kick-off 3pm Last Time Out Ian Holloway was left to regret making a number of changes to his team as the R’s were beaten 2-1 by Burton Albion, despite Nigel Clough’s side losing seven of their last eight games. The visitors took the lead through Luke Murphy's 30-yard strike. Lloyd Dyer's breakaway effort put an increasingly impressive Burton 2-0 up. Conor Washington's shot gave hope of a comeback, but the visitors held on to climb out of the relegation zone. Stats QPR have never won a competitive fixture against Burton Albion Rangers have scored and conceded seven goals in the second half of matches this season Burton have not scored in the final 15 minutes of any league game this season please log in to view this image Kelly Brook Wearing Her QPR Bikini Manager Viewpoint's Ian Holloway: "Every game is a challenge and this is no different as Burton are a fantastic team. They have a great manager and so much spirit, they are showing other clubs how to do it. We notoriously aren’t very good when we are favourites but I don’t approach any game differently – everyone in this league can beat everyone. I think they’ve had a draw at Norwich and a win over Fulham, they are in the best form they have been in all season so they are very confident." Nigel Clough: "The Manchester United game was a special occasion, but the next three games before the international break could go a certain amount of the way to defining how we do this season. Two home games and a tough one at QPR on Saturday. We want the same sort of attitude that we've had tonight (against Manchester United) and seen in the last couple of games." Team News QPR: Conor Washington is expected to feature after overcoming a calf injury that kept him out of the Middlesbrough game last week. Josh Scowen is also set for a return after making a full recovery from a dead leg picked up against Millwall but Massimo Luongo is a doubt with illness. Joel Lynch and Steven Caulker remain out but they are both close to returning whilst Grant Hall will start training outside next week. James Perch and Nedum Onuoha remain long term absentees. Burton Albion: Burton are expected to revert to a similar team that beat Fulham last weekend after making nine changes for the Carabao Cup game against Manchester United. But their record signing Liam Boyce will not feature after being ruled out for most of the season with a serious knee injury. please log in to view this image please log in to view this image Image created by @Antti_K_QPR please log in to view this image Loft for words match preview ... QPR need home comforts to continue v Burton - Preview Friday, 22nd Sep 2017 18:39 by Clive Whittingham Amidst a defensive injury crisis and worsening away form, QPR need to continue doing the business at Loftus Road to maintain a promising start to the season. I noticed that Jamal Campbell-Ryce, somehow still only 34, is playing up at Barnet now. That’s our FA Cup Third Round opponent and scorer of the winning goal settled nice and early this season then. Campbell-Ryce began his career at Charlton in 2000 and has since made 510 professional appearances for 13 different clubs – three of them in two separate spells. During that time he has scored a fairly unremarkable (for a striker/winger) 45 goals – one every 11 and a bit games. Against QPR though, that average goes out of the window – three wins, two draws and three goals from seven appearances against us. He notched when Leyton Orient staged a cup upset against us in 2002, he was part of the Southend team that beat us 5-0 in 2007, and he scored twice when League One Sheff Utd beat Premier League QPR 3-0 in the FA Cup at Loftus Road under Barry Redchapp. Some players just seem to go well against certain clubs, and Campbell-Ryce is just one of a clutch on the QPR list. Jon Stead – five goals in four games against for Ipswich, one from two for Bristol City at a time when he couldn’t hit a dead cow’s arse with an enormous shovel. Clinton O’Morrsion, seven goals in 11 appearances against us for Palace. All of which I mention because Lloyd Dyer is in town tomorrow, and while he doesn’t exactly score very often against QPR (or anybody) he did notch in the Brewers’ 2-1 win here last season and he invariably ends up looking like the black Ryan Giggs whenever he comes up against us. However he’s been playing previously, whatever the circumstance, and whoever the opposition full back is, the one-time QPR loanee (we played him left back, typically) suddenly lets rip whenever he catches sight of our blue and white hoops. Nice one Ninesy. Burton Albion at home! These are the games we savour aren’t they, counting the days down, sleeping but fitfully the as the day of the game draws near, worrying about the fitness and availability of our heroes - Luongoey, Scoweno, that Polish one, Caulkery, all the lads! Some anxiety about the formation and talents of our opponents, will Hollowayey be able to out think Cloughie (jr), will he be able to communicate his intricate thoughts to the boys, some of whom don’t speak his language, and will they be able to execute the mighty strategy? The tension is nigh on overwhelming! Sadly I won’t be going tomorrow. Enjoy the game and up the R’s! It’s Burton ****ing Albion, smash them.
Fabulous write up as per usual Mr 999's. Hoping for another decent home performance - come on URRRR's
A great preview as usual. I admit that I really like the Three Musketeers’ poster, possibly more than the Kelly Brook picture - so I am very getting worried!
As for the formation, is Wheeler injured or have you dropped him? If fit, I would be tempted to play him.
On current form, we ought to tonk this lot. please log in to view this image This IS a female, right?
Looking forward to his one (or at least, watching via QPR website). Read on here somewhere that someone had been told by a Boro fan that they were really poor, and we should win this one. It'd be lovely to get a really convincing win under our belts. Stir up some confidence and belief from players and fans alike.
