There are a number of news sources reporting that Carroll did NOT want to leave and was as good as told to leave and are quoting text message apparently sent between him and his mate Steve Wraith, editor of fanzine Toon Talk, which Carroll has agreed to have published.

The Test messages read :

Text One: “They have kind of said we don’t want u but want me to say I wanna go. And I said I don’t wanna go.”

Text Two: “I don’t know mate. Gutted tho.” (In reply to question: what’s happening?”)

Text Three: “They said they wanted the money”

Text Four: “Gutted to be leaving but I was kind of pushed out the door”

Text Five: “Just what I’ve just said really. Gutted to be leaving my home club but I was practically told to go. Don’t want to leave. that’s why I signed 5 year deal.”

Something does seem to be a bit dodgey about this deal and wouldn't be surprised if this was true, we'll see what comes out in the next few days

I'm not surprised in the slightest. Carroll is a Geordie so he wouldn't want to leave but he was forced out practically so there is nothing he could do about it. Poor lad. As for ashley, just when you thought he couldn't be any more of a ****ing **** he manages it.

any one who thinks he was pushed is a thick ****.

For once the star is right:
"Newcastle declined to comment, but Starsport understands they were relaxed about the revelations because they knew the striker would not want to upset fans. And a source pointed out that no club could force a player to hand in a transfer request. "

how nicely put. what you mean is, if anyone disagree's with a point your trying to make you resort to foul language because your grasp of the english language isn't exacly as it should be?

I belive I put "Something does seem to be a bit dodgey about this deal and wouldn't be surprised if this was true, we'll see what comes out in the next few days"

I didn't say I fully belived it and it is more than the daily star reporting it, the Independent also are running the story!!!!!!

Nice to know you can have a reasonable discussion with knuckle draggers

What's with people not using correct grammar on here? Sentences start with CAPITAL letters, talk about a "grasp of the 'E'nglish language" geez. <doh>

I believe he was pushed by the twat of a casino man we are saddled with.
He should spend more time trying to sell the club so he can buy into his beloved spud team and remain in his beloved south

Carroll could have said no.

Yes the club have once again acted like ****s, when will they realise that we find everything out. But Carroll signed the transfer request, he could have just walked out the door and went home and waited for 11pm to pass.

That's what a real geordie would do.

He wears his hair like a tart and he behaved like a tart. He could have stayed if he'd wanted to, I don't think they held a gun to his head!

He may have been nudged towards the exit but he certainly wasn't pushed. The board may have said that the offer was too good to turn down. However, no-one can force him to put in a transfer request, nor take a medical and sign a contract at Liverpool. At the end of the day, he left because he wanted to. He had a contract here and could have easily said "no, I'm not leaving." He didn't do that and agreed to leave.

Ashley, Pardew etc cannot be blamed for this. Andy Carroll is the one who made this happen.

I don't think Carroll was pushed, no. I think in an ideal world he wanted to stay and they wanted him to stay but this isn't an ideal world. The board had turned down 2 massive offers for Carroll and he had just signed a five yr contract, suggesting both wanted to keep him at St Jame's. But to be offered such a ludicrous amount of money for him was bound to turn both his and the boards' heads. £35m is a joke for someone who has been in the premier league for about 20 weeks and played for England once.

I'm not jumping to Ashley's defense, he has done some reprehensible things in his time at Newcastle, but this club isn't his play thing, he doesn't have the money of the likes of Abramovich and he has piled money into the club's debt and will now (understandably) want to reap some of it back. He will give Pardew a bit of money to spend in the summer but it won't be the full £35m and why should it be - Ashley's aim is to financially get the club on an even keel, which with the new rules coming in is not a completely dumb idea. I think he was totally naive in buying the club in the first place, I don't think he had any idea what he was letting himself in for or has the football knowledge required, but to say he is doing it for the money is madness - he's lost millions so far.

As for Carroll - I don't believe that the lure of Liverpool specifically was the deciding factor for him - although they will probably bounce back to the top of the league quicker, currently they are on a similar level to us. If Carroll had waited for summer he might have had his pick of the likes of Man U, City etc. So this move seems a bit rash. But you don't hand in a transfer request if you want to stay somewhere. We don't know what is going on in Carroll's personal life (although certain aspects have been well documented) - but I can't imagine you'd be keen on hanging around somewhere where people want to torch your car. Perhaps he's just looking for a fresh start somewhere new?

And they don't torch cars or knick the tyres/wheels off them in Liverpool do they?

Pushed, shoved or an extra £2.7 million this year and the potential to earn between £30 to £40 million over the next 5 years as opposed to £10 to £20 million, I am sure that he would have been advised by his agent in this matter, it would be interesting to see those text messages.

Once Newcastle accepted Liverpool's offer Carroll was on his way.

Was he pushed we will never know.

He's also gone from 30k to 80k, I wouldn't say no.

written transfer request, he wanted to double his wages, the loyalty pledges didnt stretch to 50,000 more a week. anything reasoning past this is borne of your hatred (rightly or wrongly) of Agent Ashley.

accept. move on.

you got more than we did for bent, for a player who is less proven, you didnt have time to spend any of it in this window, +ve's -ve's such is football
