As we've commented so often before, getting to the PL is not necessarily some promised land for the smaller clubs.

Based on historical stats only, Palace have a 50% chance of the drop this season.

Let's see where they are at Christmas.

And if by any small chance Tom is reading, suck it up son. :emoticon-0103-cool:
 
For obvious reasons (given my user name) I am monitoring this situation very closely.
The worrying thing for Palace is that three of their four opening fixtures were games they should expect to get at least 4-6 points from. Huddersfield and Swansea at home and Burnley away. They actually won away at Liverpool last season as well which was their other game. They do have Sakho, Zaha and the Chelsea lad to come back from injury but a potentially winnable game at home to the Saints is followed by away visits to the Manchester clubs then a home game to Chelsea so they are not going to be moving up that table anytime soon!

I remember Smeagle Tom well. The Millwall board also took a liking to baiting him - I recall LovelyGeezer threatened to smash up his train set once, which made me laugh.

Quite. Am I correct in understanding that the thinking behind his appointment was to change the style of play from the largely direct modus operandi to more of a passing game, which the powers that be expected him to achieve with the predominantly inherited squad?

Isn't that rather like putting Jenson Button on a pogo stick and expecting him to win the Grand National?
