We rely far too heavily on Vince. That's nothing new; we've seen all competition how weak our middle order is. Frustratingly though, Vince probably should have seen us home - what went through his mind when he tried to hit Mullaney away, I don't quite know. It was his final over, and the RR was under control. Just take six singles. In terms of moments in the match, I think that one cost us the match slightly more than Abbott's second did (turn a 20 run over into a 4 or 5 run over, and suddenly we only need about 150 - which is much more in our range, with no middle order). Almost certainly the last time we will ever see Carberry in a Hampshire shirt. (Probably Afridi too, but that's very different). Thanks for everything Carbs. I think his 50 over SF innings vs Sussex away in 2012 stands out the most for me, just ahead of his 300 vs Yorkshire and his QF t20 100 vs Lancs.
I've just seen a clip of Freddie and Bumbles doing their Elvis and Johnny Cash sing off.... they finish with a duet and Freddie Falls over a speaker. It's so funny. I cried!
Well done Notts. Proving to be team of the year n all forms of cricket. It beggars belief how they managed to get relegated last season!!!!
That was bloody hilarious! As was the streaker who ran onto the pitch completely starkers and got taken out by a massive steward! I know you shouldn't encourage that sort of thing but you couldn't help laughing.
Yes it does. I am hoping that when they play Worcestershire in the CC2 they will still have hangovers. As anyone who has no life and can remember my earlier posts on this thread, I've been a Worcester fan since the early 60's. This season we have a great chance of being promoted while Warwickshire get relegated. Reminds me of my joy when Pompey managed relegation as Saints went up to the Prem! It is interesting to note that promotion and relegation seem to have little impact on county sides. Someone must remind me why we do it.
Wonderful start to the present round of 4 day matches!! Play in only one!!! It will be interesting to see the % playing time that is lost due to the weather and coming off for bad light. It would be better to have these matches played in places like Cyprus, Malta, Gibraltar and Dubai. At least play would be guaranteed and the attendance could even be bigger given the numbers of ex-pats or people working overseas in these locations.
How often will this occur in the one day series after the conclusion of this Test? It will certainly affect the last three rounds of the 4 day game. To have the last scheduled round going into the last week of September is pure crazy. Those with a long memory will remember how 16 three day games were played alongside the B&H tournament, then the Gillette/Nat West Trophy and the 40 over Sunday League, with the season culminating by the second week of September. IMO the 50 over game needs to be streamlined to become either 2 groups of 4 and 2 groups of 5 with the top two top-placed teams going on to the kockout stage. The same needs to be applied to the T20. If this was done, then the 4 day game can be completed by the end of the first week of September. How many fans were in attendance at the county grounds today? How many will be in attendance for the final round of matches?
I've had a constant argument with my friend over the 4 day game and 2 years ago I said they have to be Day/night games to draw any kind of crowd. Low and behold we're almost there on that front. Secondly as a spectator actually going to games 50 over cricket is the best value for money. The tournament needs an absolute overhaul and should be regarded as a brilliant trophy to win. 20/20 is great as a gimmick but it doesn't give you the sense of a day out at cricket. 20/20 on a Friday night and Sunday afternoon and 50 overs on a Saturday. Monday to Thursday for county games and everything is covered.
Wonderful start to the day's proceedings in the test and final day of the County Championship. Rain widespread. I hope Somerset secure a much deserved victory at Edgbaston to put pressure on the teams above them. The decisive match could well be between Somerset and Middlesex as they play each other. Would be ironic if Somerset won this forthcoming game to send Middlesex down.
Taken from the BBC text commentary . John Drabble: Cricketing exam. Mitchell Johnson bowls to the left, and also bowls to the right. In no more than 4 words, explain why.
