Even WITH Sanchez, Wenger couldn't get this team doing anything much. Signing a replacement to Oxlade will make no difference. Wenger is a proven squanderer of money. If we must persist with Wenger then give him no money and just write the two years off and save the funds for someone who won't blow £80m+ on Mustafi, Xhaka and Perez... ALL of which have been disasters.

I dont think we need a replacement for the Ox. (Iwobi, Walcott, Wellbeck are all of a similar quality - and Iwobi has better potential IMO)

We need a TOP class CM a powerful centreback and a replacement for Sanchez if he is leaving.

We need to get rid of Sanchez ASAP if anything like 50 mln is on offer. We can win Europa league without him (we need to take it seriously, as it is the only chance to play CL next season), as for EPL, we can finish 5th with Sanchez or 6-8th without him. The difference is simply not worth 50 mln. And knowing Alexis one can expect a lot of negativity from him if he stays.
So get rid of anyone who is not willing to fight for the club get as much money as possible for them and start planning for the next summer transfer window. Top class CB, top class DM and top class creative midfielder. Something like £170 ml in today's money. Sadly one not expect this from Wenger these days.

According to press we are paying cash and Sanchez for Sterling!!!!!!!
    WTF
    WTF
    WTF

If Wenger thinks Sterling is worth more than Sanchez then that is the proof that Wenger has totally lost it.

He has to go - and sadly for AW it will be a chorus of boos that he will hear as he departs - if he had gone after FA Cup win then it would have been warm applause from everyone.

Wenger is like an old boxer that goes on too long and doesn't see when it is time to quit and then gets knocked out and his reputation is gone.

As far as i'm aware it's Sterling plus cash for Sanchez not the other way round.

    SANCHEZ, STERLING UPDATE
Details of the negotiations which have taken place between Manchester City and Arsenal are becoming a little clearer this afternoon...
We understand Manchester City are keen on a simple cash-only deal for Alexis Sanchez.
Arsenal, however, are considering a deal which involves Sanchez heading for Manchester City, with Raheem Sterling heading for north London. Interestingly, we understand that the deal would also include Arsenal paying a fee to City as a makeweight.
So, to confirm, that's Arsenal paying City a fee for Sterling, with Sanchez also going to City. Wow!

    Wow ****ing indeed

have to admit the sterling swap has me intrigued, as he is only 22, while sanchez turning 29 and on the last year of his contract.

The real issue is would sterling actually work at Arsenal? I could EASILY see him becoming another Walcott / Ox / Welbeck and just stagnating.

Thats the frustrating thing - it really does NOT matter who we sign - I cant see Wenger managing / motivating ANY player coming in. Could see Sterling just coming back to London to enjoy his nights out all while making millions at a mid table club...

    Perez was not a disaster.
He was actually a good player who Wenger seemed to dislike soon after he bought him.
The whole scenario summed up the weirdness of Wenger.

Do we really need Sterling ? We've got Walcott, Iwobi and Welbeck who are all similar players.

Sterling is decent player, but it's a step down from Sanchez. I'd rather see us going for Lemar or Draxler and a CM either Seri or Goretska

    Lemars joining Liverpool mate <whistle>

I wonder if he watched the game at the weekend? Tbh I can't see anyone that watched that wanting to join Arsenal right now.

As a United fan we were seriously concerned about Ed Woodward's first transfer window after SAF left, it's improved a lot since then though...

I must admit though if you swap your best player who is a hard working, fighting, goal scoring player at his peak for a flashy player like Sterling who goes missing in most big games and has much less end product then you have way bigger issues than we had.
Yes he's younger, English and has a long term contract, but that does not make up for quality and impact on results & the squad (on & off the pitch).
If you end up paying money on top of a swap deal then you're verging on a Mike Ashley or Venky's level of achievement.

Hope it's just leaks by Wenger so that when the swap happens you say "oh, at least we didn't pay cash on top of the deal".

Our net spend this window has been precisely **** all. We look like we're about to bring in around £40m for Oxo, £14m for Perez, £7m for Gibbs and possibly £35m for Mustafi. That's £96m right there that we have in profit from this window alone. On top of the reported £100m that we supposed to be investing. So that's nearly £200m that we could have invested into this squad.

That would have easily have got us Van Dijk, Lemar, Seri/Goretska, maybe somebody like Asensio, Isco, Carvalho. All players who would have made an improvement. And this doesn't even take Sanchez into the equation.

We are now 2 days away from the window closing and staring a ****ing calamity in the face.

I can't argue with that. Anybody watching that **** stain of a team on Sunday would need their head checking. There is a serious problem at Arsenal at the moment. Wenger has to take the lions share of the responsibility, but Gazidis and the rest of the board have allowed this situation to fester. How many other teams let their best players run down their contracts like they have ? It's a ****ing shambles mate.

Bloody hell if that is what's really happening then everyone from Board level to Wenger need their ****ing heads checked. Sanchez plus cash for ****ing Sterling?!?!? He couldn't touch Sanchez's jock strap and we're giving money for him as well as OUR BEST PLAYER!

This is getting bloody ridiculous now.

Don't, I wouldn't. I'd be pissing myself laughing if it was happening to a rival <laugh>

In all seriousness though, it makes me want to cry. We are a big club who have won titles, a record number of FA cups, two doubles, a champions league final, invincibles season, Top 4 every year (barring last season) all under Wenger. And this is what he is reduced to, being held to ransom by our best players and watching a team disintegrate in front of him, because he and the board just dick about every transfer window.

My feeling at the moment is just to get rid of the players who don't want to wear the shirt, because they are a ****ing poisonous influence at the moment. **** them off and play a team who want to fight for club. Even if we have a couple of seasons finishing mid table, and maybe a decent run in the Europey pot. It will be better than seeing this bunch of half arsed knob jockeys making us look like a laughing stock every time they fold like a sack of **** when we come up against a decent team.
