What saint said and .... I was responding to this ''I'd rather eggs in one basket for glory then just top 4 thanks'' .. which looks like your personal view and contextualising this means, as a Chelsea fan you're talking about Chelsea and not about Klopp [which you went on to do in your next post]
Anyone know how much this qualifier v Hoffenheim was worth?.....as in how much £££ is getting into the group stages worth? A while back it was £30m or so I think.......
Nope it began because either MITO or Saint (or both) mentioned that it was folly of Klopp to put his eggs in one basket 2 years ago in the Europa which made you finish 8th and lose out on europa and coefficient points. I said that if you did a United or indeed do a rafa then it would have been worth it then threw it that i would be more than happier with Klopps approach than trying to just qualify for top 4
I think £30m was how much we earned in total in our last CL campaign. Got this from the UEFA site - What it will mean for the 32 clubs in the 2017/18 UEFA Champions League group stage is a guaranteed minimum fixed payment of €12.7m each, to be boosted by bonus payments of €1.5m per win and €500,000 per draw in the group stage. The teams competing in the round of 16 will further increase their base payment by receiving an additional €6m fee, with the quarter-finalists then picking up €6.5m apiece and the semi-finalists pocketing €7.5m each. The UEFA Champions League winners themselves can expect to receive €15.5m and the runners-up €11m. A club could therefore collect, at best, €57.2m, which does not include play-off allocations or market pool share. http://www.uefa.com/uefachampionsleague/news/newsid=2493261.html
Your explanation here is fine but you said that after you said this - ''I'd rather eggs in one basket for glory then just top 4 thanks'' - that's a very personal statement Surely if you hadn't meant it as an 'in my opinion' statement you would have said something like 'if I was a Liverpool fan I'd rather .....'
nah the original was mentioning both and it was just a continuation of the discussion. Not that i'm scoring points as this is pretty pointless but lets just end this here
Fair play. tbh when it's really quiet on here I have a habit of extending discussions past their sell by date just for something to talk about
I think that's impossible to quantify. We may only get £30 mill for attending champions league group stage (some of which we'd get from Europa anyway) but... We would be much more valuable to sponsors which could represent £10's of mill. We would be more attractive to top talent meaning their demands are less and top talent means winning more. I think it's near impossible to put a figure on what it's worth to qualify.
its hard to quantify CL money. there are a lot of possibilities. Base fee for group stage: €12,700,000 Group match victory: €1,500,000 Group match draw: €500,000 thats just the prize money the market pool is more complicated. theres 500mil up for grabs. Englands share will be split 5 ways. before it would be split 4 ways but 4th place gets 10% man city last year for 30mil or so..... so... if we estimate: LFC win 3 group games and draw 2... whatever... bit optimistic but hey.... 3x1.5+2x0.5 = 5.5mil so... 12.7 + 5.5 + approx 28mil...then last 16 bonus of 6mil = 52.2 mil thats what the game has dropped for us.... if we make last 16... and actually perform in the group
What does it matter? So far this window you have had £130m+ to spend on two players but have managed to not spend a penny of it. Money income is only worth anything if your owners are prepared to spend it.
