Probably because I would put my life on Pardew not being able to get us out the championship, even with the money.
Give Pardew, a man lucky to be in a job and with no achievements to speak of, no money and I think we all knew he was under no illusions as to the situation
Take Benitez, a man with his history and who is far from lucky to be in his job, and tell him the money's there before going on to piss on his chips
This is why I've got something more for Benitez, he shows he isn't happy. It used to sicken me seeing all summer without transfers AND have to put up with 'lines'
Whilst it was every right for Pardew to take that job knowing the score, I have every right to think him a **** for doing so

Pardew would have walked the championship with the squad we had last year in my opinion.

Grow up sad sack
Awww, diddums, did I just reminded you that your club is worse? And why are we rotten? because Sebastian Coe was arrogant and made everyone pay for a useless stadium? Or because Tottenham (who also got a **** load of money from Boris for thei rstadium) lost the bid because they hired phone hackers to try and find something dirty (which they didn't) Or because our chairmen made money from soft porn (all models were over 18)

Rafa is good but he needs coin and his own way. I think what he is doing behind the scenes is better than we have had for years. Having said that 1st team affairs need to improve. Hope we can get a player or two before the end of the window and start making this work...otherwise swap deal for Bilic!?

I like Bilic as a person, he has integrity and honour, sadly his tactical astuteness is lacking.

Fair enough but I think you would have got some belting odds on that

With 50m outlay on new players? Nah it would have been 4/1 or something daft. At the end of the day any manager worth his salt should be able to get somewhere near with that kind of budget (regardless of what was generated). Pardew himself had the odd half decent outlay on players. Yes the overall picture for his reign was one of profit which you can't get away from, as with Rafa his spend once taking in sales was not massive, but at the end of the day if you are given 50m and already have a squad containing Shelvey, Mbemba, Mitrovic, Perez, Anita, Lascelles, Darlow, Elliot, Dummett, Haidara, Colback, Aarons, Gouffran - then I think its reasonable to expect a promotion. You've got 10 players amongst those 13 who would get into most Championship first 11's. You then have 57m to get the rest! He was allowed to add 11 players to the 13 he had. For the championship...

I think it is harsh to say he bought a load of championship players. He did because we were actually very short on numbers, so he did need to numbers. End of the day though he was allowed to. I'm not saying you could put a monkey in charge as Villa are evidence that actually you can't. But most half decent managers would have managed promotion.

Its bizarre that Sunderland fans seem to think it would be a big shock if Rafa walked or that we'd up in arms about it. Its difficult to get overly bothered about something most have predicted is going to happen. It would be more like "ah look Mike's done it again". After 10 years with big Mikey, I think we have a decent handle on what to expect.

Personally, and I realise not many agree, I don't think its that big a deal anyway. I just think he's done a fairly average job. Yeah he's ahad a limited budget this year but he had a massive one last year. I just think its weird so many of our fans are quick to defend him due to a lack of funds. Pardew had a lack of funds but kept us safely in mid table most of the time by the end of the season - yet he's the devils spunk. Why does Rafa get such an easy ride? His subs are ****, we're boring to watch, and he has brought in a load of dross. What's the big deal?
I totally agree with you buddy!

Pardew is a moot point. He was an extension of a poisonous owner, the vitriol was not all Pards' doing. What we received was Rafa, the apparent antidote. The current ire is nothing more than the disappointment of realising the owner, the reign, is exactly the same, just with a nicer face than Pardew as it's spokesperson.

I only said 4 words to you and now you're waffling on. You live in a far fetched world if you think you can abuse my club to me and think then think I'm going to talk in any detail with you. Now go get back in your uber cab but stop sexually assaulting drunk women. :1980_boogie_down:

To flip it the other way, do you genuinely think Benitez would have had the same time at palace (or west ham?) With the resources/team available?
Do you think Benitez would have had us flirt with relegation all but one year if he'd been in charge in Pards' era?

Has atleast taken on 'the establishment' and got Carr sacked.
Even if Pards' would have had the balls to demand that, he'd have been laughed out of Charnley's office. The current fear/ire is actually that Benitez will walk, something Pardew would never have done over transfers.

Who had a dig at whose club first? And not going into detail = you have no come back.

How precious <laugh>I didn't have a dig at your club at all. I made an observation that something seemed rotten. Good squad, good fan base, decent manager. Everything looks right to progress yet you continue to stall. My observation that there may be few lumps of poison rotting in the dressing room, but you have to forgiven as I'm not as close to the club as you are. You would have found this out had you not flew off the handle with that ****. I never dissed your club in any shape or from.

This is a conversation platform, I'm not going to go into every detail of my post like I'm making a statement on the off chance someone like you takes exception. If you stopped being a complete social ****** and bothered to ask what I meant, I could have told you, you would have known and corrected me with your views and all would be good, you wouldn't have lowered the tone like an attention seeking child and i wouldn't have to be taking the piss out of you now. See how conversations work? You dozy twat <doh><laugh>

Seems like it, some big wages to get off the bill

Correct.

In a few years time he can give 'Craigsy' another contrived interview and include him in the list of Managers that he's made a **** of...........Fat Sam, Keegan, Houghton, Shearer, Rafa.............. Mike Ashley, the gift that keeps on giving.

This.

For me I lost respect for Pardew when he became the mouthpiece for the regime. He also didn't help with his stupid and immature behaviour and antics whilst he was manager.

Probably - both are archaic managers. There is no progression. The only thing i would say is Benitez is prob a good fit with this season where we need a negative style to grind out points. But he needs to get braver when behind

And what has it achieved? Ashley is still rolling out the same ****.

Well ye we can't change that but I wouldn't go as far as to liken him to a nicer mouthpiece.
At the end of the day he's atleast trying/fighting to change the running of the club. I can't expect him to have much more affect than that.
I'm not in some fantasy world where Benitez is the best thing ever, but we'll never get a CL winner for a manager again
