    I disagree, Johno.

Yes, it's a risk. But it's a calculated gamble IMO.

We have just shipped out Bent, Healy, Da Silva and Andy Reid in Jan. Apart from Bent, it was probs hard work to get the others off the payroll.

Why should Brucey undo all that good work and pay over the odds for a back-up striker that would be 4th choice come the summer, and probably sit on our payroll for another 18 months or more.

Adding another waster to the payroll now would reduce Brucey's spending power in the cheaper summer market where he can get far better value than in Jan.

I too would have liked to see some backup brought in but I am not ****ting myself. If Asa does take a knock then we make do with what we have. If it means missing out on the Euro League, then so what? We would not earn any more from Euro League than a replacement in Jan would cost overall in any case.

IMO a sensible and justified gamble by Bruce & Co.

    Just my tuppence worth.

What if we had signed Fuller for £5m on a 3 year deal and £60k per week and tomorrow night he went over on his dodgy knee and dislocated his iffy shoulder? He would be out for maybe 4 to 6 weeks, when Welbeck would be back anyway and Campbell back in light training?

What would then be the point?

Its a risk, like all decisions are but a calculated one IMO and one we can live with rather than spend daft money on 2nd rate players.

Sick of reading this now apparently, according to someone else, it's the worst mistake the club has ever made.

Quite agree. Just can't understand how people are thinking this.

It is definitely a gamble, but then signing a **** overpriced player would be a gamble too. Especially if he had girly hair, an asbo and an ankle tag.

    Totaly agree, Me & J.
And IMO that was his best scene in the whole movie.

He's almost as cool and good loking as me. :emoticon-0107-sweat

Knocks Steve McQ and Cest's avatar bloke for six in the coolness stakes (but don't tell Cest!).

At the risk of being accused of a mutual admiration society, I always smiled at your user name on 606. Paul Simon may have been a Sunderland fan. Who knows?

My own favourite avatar on here is the munkey heed of dickmalonespecial. I think that is the best ever! Almost handsome.

Medeoka... There's an edit button mate. Mediocre.

8th place would still be class for us if we sign a good striker in the summer and kick on again.

Success isn't instant. Actual success, not a flash in the pan is what we're trying to achieve. Six months without Ricardo Fuller isn't a drop in the plan.

I said it before and will stick by it. I am gutted we did not get a striker in. Not a big money flash move wanted to wait for the summer for that but someone just to help with the burden of scoring the goals if Gyan got injured. I know we have players coming back in the coming weeks but even a deal to bring back super kev for a few month just to have somehting on the bench who can offer goals. The problem we have is if we are losing and not playing well we will struggle to bring on anyone who can hit the back of the net.....big gamble I think only time will tell if it will pay off!

Nothing wrong with a bit of mutual appreciation. Good to know we all have similar tastes!

On the OP, although I am disappointed that we haven't signed a striker, I have complete faith in our ownership/management team and am now counting the days till Danny is back in full training.

    In Quinn we trust!

Arguably the best decision we have made in a long time - not pissing away 5-10 million in fees and wages on medeoka crap. I don't even consider it a risk worth mentioning. In 5 games we will have 2 or 3 strikers to choose from. Those 5 games are pretty tough that we could lose them all with a full strength team anyway. Still think we are good for top 8.

Who would you have gone for ?? And do you think we'd have got value for money??
No chance, every club on the radar would've been well aware that our warchest was bursting and would no doubt try and have our pants down. Ellis/Niall/Brucie will have explored every avenue in trying to bring in a stop gap replacement, but there's simply no value on the market at present - it's far more prudent to go for a Judas replacement in the summer when the market is more of a buyers game (remember Brucie has already stated that the replacement will most likely be another SAFC transfer record!).

The Future's Bright, It's Red and White !!

By the way that's the funniest way of spelling mediocre I've ever seen ! (and your other spelling mistake has one s and two ps !)

I can name lots of players who have moved around on loan that I would have liked to see come to the club. Daniel Sturridge, Eidur Gudjohnsen, Jozy Altidore to name but three......all were available on loan and would have involved no risk of a big fee or huge wages.

Our quota for loans from the EPL is full. Gudjohnsen and Sturridge couldn't have signed had we wanted them to.

Altidore probably isn't welcome after head-butting one of our players last year...

I wonder what Freddy Adu is like nowadays.

Yeah but we couldn't have signed any more loan signings from Britain because you're only allowed Two, and we've got Nedum and Welbeck fella !
