Exactly. Frightening really when you look at our CL qualifier squad!

we can't pay them though :bandit:

look we are always going to struggle in LC groups if we get there cos our european record says we are 3rd seeds and 3rd seeds need luck to get a poor champion team as seed 1.

We could get real or bayern as no 1 seeds.. yeah?

the no 2 seeds are all strong teams more or less

so we need to enjoy the CL for what it is.. get i t he groups. do what we can to get as many points as we can and then prepare for europa.

POT 1
Real Madrid Esp 176.999
Bayern München Ger 154.899
Chelsea Eng 106.192
Juventus Ita 140.666
Benfica Por 111.866
AS Monaco Fra 62.333
Spartak Moscow Rus 18.606
Shakhtar Donetsk Ukr 87.526

Pot 2
FC Barcelona Esp 151.999
Atlético Madrid Esp 142.999
Paris Saint-Germain Fra 126.333
Borussia Dortmund Ger 124.899
Sevilla *4 Esp 112.999
Manchester City Eng 100.192
FC Porto Por 98.866
Manchester United Eng 95.192

our best draw could be monaco now they have been asset stripped, spartak or shaktar.... our worst draw would be real, bayern, juve....

Pot 2... wow.... its really tough isn't it..

lets just out this competition in context.

its about developing LFC and getting back to this level.. look at those top 16 clubs... LFC have 56 coefficicent points. I'd not back LFC currently to beat any of them really... this is why when i hear our manager say name 5 cbs better than waht we have i laugh....

He will definitely go wingbacks i think. Unless Mendy isn't as good as everyone thinks he is. He did bring on Sane for danilo but if Sane does play at wingback it will be more cause he's trying to fit him in rather than making the best team fit.

Its really about the top of the park though..

If its 3 at the back is it 2 up top and 5 in midle as this first outing suggests or is it 3 up top?

debruyne and silva and fernandinho in CM sort of areas and mendy and walker wide.

Sane could make it 3 up top but who comes out.

could well be right but if so he must move now and immediately to buy the replacement.

I've not idea what will occur or what has occurred but klopps comments about it being in the owners hands was very interesting.
Maybe we will get a replacement, or maybe not. We'll see.
Klopp is obviously the type of manager who thinks he can get the best out of what he's got until a clear improvement is there.
Being an old git I can remember when everybody worked this way, until the billionaire owners moved in and the cheque-book managers came along, so I do have a little sympathy for this approach. However, I don't know that it is enough for the modern game - it was fine when everybody worked that way but I'm not sure it's enough to compete with the mega rich clubs who just keep buying whoever they want, it seems.
Like I said a few days ago, his approach will either show he's a genius, or naive.
His inability to sort out the ****ing defence doesn't bode well though. :(

its simply not.

you still have the lay the ground work for the guys coming through and its not there for lfc... it just is not.

I don't really buy that it was like that back way when.. i'm sure a big club bought a couple guys in just the fees were less and squad were smaller and din't get injuries and need 25 men.

LFc bought in plenty in the glory years etc.

when you see you need a cb you got a cb.

IMO the difference now is the politics and money is obscene

Sane will be a key player this season. The lad tore the pl to bits towards the end of last season.

He's quality imo

Depends on the formation. Playing with wing backs then he can't do it. Walker and Mendy are perfect players for the wing back role as well. If he goes 433 then Sane is their best real winger. Was frightening at times last season wth his pace.

yeah... i kind of think if he goes 433 the midfield isn't really disciplined to do the hard work needed. I think the 3 at back kind of hints at this.

seriously sterling looks more and more odd man out and there for english quota.

However it will be interesting to see how stones progresses now.

Of course in the past new players were brought in, but it was nothing like the musical chairs you see every summer these days. There was more of the sense of a team evolving each year rather than mutating.
As with life in general, the gap between rich and poor just keeps getting bigger.

so Barca have signed Paulinho for a reputed £36m even more it looks like probably 1 only out of Dembele & Coutinho

I REALLY don't get this one. The guy isn't good enough for barca. I just can't see this working.

dembele is too young and has IMO failed the first barca test by pulling the antics he has.... but i hope to **** they get him.

In the end... I dunno I cannot see anything but a real madrid title here. its always close there of course but all signs are real are well prepared and barca are floundering.

yeah i'd agree, with a smaller squad theres not as much to keep happy plus it was total club power too.

3 cbs,

2 wingbacks (mendy and walker, at a push sane in there), leaves 3 in the middle as you say, Silva, KDB and Fernandino/gundogan

2 up top in his favoured Jesus and he can't drop aguero now

not understanding where this 3 up top is. The only way he does that is if he plays 4 at the back

got to agree with MITO. Their was maybe more time given to coaches and players and more times for players to come through but if you have a giant sized problem which Liverpool have, pretty sure managers back then tried to resolve them. It's not like only VVD or Keita will improve you, theres plenty of players who would improve you

the Paulinho signing does seem a bit odd particularly considering the fee.

I said I have some sympathy for the approach, but I also expressed doubts about it being enough.

yeah no one wants to see the scattergun approach we had pre Klopp but to have only 1 target for each of 2 such obvious deficiencies was lunacy particularly considering the position of the clubs the targets are contracted to.

There are some things i just don't think you can coach.

When you are hiring anyone for a job right..... what do you look for?

experience sure, transferrable skills yes.... but most of all people look for attitude.

You can walk into an interview and be dripping in qualifications and skills and come off a complete turd.

IMO you can take a winjaldum and train the **** out of them cos they are damned talented players but you can never teach them the attitude.

there is a reason why phil jones was picked for utd yesterday.... one reason above all others. He will put his head anywhere and block and die for the team. Carragher had it.... its the only reason rafa kept him on imo.

Theres absolutely no reason on gods green earth jon flanagan is in the lfc squad bar attitude. ****ing useless player.

IMO klopp likes lovren for attitude not talent but the re are 5/6 players at LFC i'd not have near my own team if i were a manager. they just don't have the attitude or discipline.
