Can't hear the song - written by the great Jimmy Webb, sung to perfection by Glenn Campbell - without thinking about one of this century's great sporting moments.

I don't think people realise how great a musician Glen was. If you can seek out the documentary Wrecking Crew and you'll get a feel.
He was a member of an elite group of musicians who played on most of the records coming out of California in the '60s. He probably played on most of the Beach Boy albums of the mid '60s and even played on tour with them for some time. So when you hear records by the Byrds, the Mamas and the Papas, The Ronettes, The Righteous Brothers and the Association etc. Glen was probably there with Hal Blaine. Carol Kaye, Leon Russel and Ted Tedesco playing sublime guitar.
He was a great singer too.
