IMHO in a few years time , clubs like Arsenal & Tottenham will rule the roost .

They don't spend crazy money , 1 has a great stadium with big capacity , the other is getting one . ONE day the financial bubble will burst , and teams like them will be sitting pretty .

    League prediction from McNulty.

Here's what he says about us:

    Southampton
    This season: 14th
    Last season: 8th

New season. New manager. New season. More speculation about their best player.

This seems to be life almost every summer at Southampton as Mauricio Pellegrino replaces the sacked Claude Puel, who seemed harshly dealt with after an eighth place finish and a Wembley final, while Virgil van Dijk sits on the sidelines declining to figure in pre-season as he craves a £60m move to Liverpool.

Southampton seem to thrive in this environment but surely there will come a time when they cannot pull off this trick of succeeding surrounded by such turbulence.

The Saints will not struggle for a moment but I do not expect them to be as high as in recent seasons. It will be interesting to see how Italian Manolo Gabbiadini fares after an outstanding introduction last term. He will be a crucial figure.

And every season someone says 'how long can they keep it up'....one season they will be right and can look smug....despite being wrong for every season before that. My view is that any team can have a bad season....the other blasted 19 teams can have a say in that....but that doesn't mean a slide to oblivion. It happens...live with it. I'm hoping for the best (Champions' League spot, FA and League Cup), but will also be happy with a season of promise.

Lazy journalism. Could have been written by someone that just looked at League position, and how far we got in cups without once watching us play.

Also why add £60m. He may want a move, and it may be that he wants a move to Liverpool, but he won't give a ff how much he's sold for.

McNulty only cares about the top 4. He's also got Newcastle finishing 3 places above us despite signing nearly enough players since promotion.

Newcastle will be interesting...a bit like West Ham who came up with us. An experienced PL side only recently relegated. Can't see them getting relegated again, but how well will they do? My guess would be 11-15th.

I think Newcastle will be fine but nowhere near that high. Again lazy journalism. To have us "in no trouble at all" but to have us 14th kind of contradicts itself. Obviously we don't like it when pundits think we won't do well, but considering where we have finished consistently and the fact we have lost no top players (yet) shows really poor journalism.

We were 8th last season, but that was by the skin of our teeth. The consensus amongst non-Saints people may very well be that we will drop a few places without ever being in danger of relegation. We have progressed in that they will even admit that :)

There hasn't been any speculation about James Ward-Prowse?

Having read both McNulty and Merson; the latters is a more thorough analysis; which strangely is an odd thing to conclude when discussing Merson. McNulty has written a piece of garbage; embaressong for someone representing Aunty...

Nothing will ever beat that for pure drama.

A stoppage time goal in the final game of the season, to win the league title, from your City rivals, on goal difference.

    Incredible really.

I was convinced football was rigged for a little while after that game.

Mmm not sure. What if there was a goal in the last minute of the last game of the season and it was the only game being played (after everyone had finished) and it was between the teams deciding the title?? And that goal won the title on goal difference. They needed that extra goal even though they would have won the game without it.

    That happened once.

You could write a book about it :)
