There'll be a few more targets floating round on a pre contract in January and this time there is an option to buy Big Lurch. It is a better position than we were in yesterday. If Forster improves as he has done (and he did) then he could be ideal for us. If he doesn't, then we don't exercise that option.
Surprised we didn't go for Westwood in January gone on a pre-contract as we had bids rejected for him before. No Cudicini thats for sure but hopefully he has a good season & we sign him up. When the **** did we need to have Newcastles 3rd/4th choice keeper on loan!?!?
I agree with this, I think it is a lack of ambition on Celtics part they could have had Gordan for £2million but didn't why? Forster is ok but like many have said he was 3rd choice for a Newcastle team that is often in the bottom 10
Gordon on loan would have been fine but to pay £2m for an injury prone player doesn't make sense which is why they probably didn't agree to it. I'm not a massive fan of Forster nor am I depressed by his signing, just don't understand why we had him for 12 months on loan & are getting him back! If we liked him last season buy him! He is so young for a keeper his price is only going to increase. Hope we have a figure already agreed as if he has a stormer & Newcastle stick the price up we will be in the same position! English keepers are rare, few good seasons up here & he could be worth a fortune.
Forster is a decent keeper. Good shot saver. No worse than Shagger in his ability/lack of ability to deal with crosses. Not great with kicking but he'll be fine.
He's not consitant... Celtic needed a keeper with the same quality as McGregor. McGregor saved Rangers' a good few points last season.
I'm trying to think of mistakes that Forster made. There was one in the first OF game when he kicked poorly from a passback. And he was sent off in the cup game at Ibrox (debatable whether it was his 'fault' though). But that's it as far as I can remember. I thought he was quite reliable all in all. Certainly more so than Zaluska. And even Boruc had some pretty piss poor performances in his time, particularly towards the end. Not saying he's as good as McGregor (who made a few howlers last season too - Commons OF goal in the 3-0 for instance) but I'm not overly concerned.
I'm with AP here He didn't entirely look comfortable all the time but rarely cost us. I remember at the start he looked shaky but by mid season he was fine & you forgot how young he was. Then towards the end of the season he started making a few errors - could in part be down to the problems we had at the centre of defence in the run in. Wont win us games & wont lose us games The positive to take is that if I'm right & we do have £x amount to bring in a keeper & striker we still have that to get in a striker.
& Boruc fumbled every shot that was straight at him! No keeper is the full package anymore, they all have one flaw at least. The guy is young, really young for a keeper & has time to work on his game. I think he will be a really good keeper in a few years.
I wholly agree with SuperHoops. Forster is still young but seemed to really fit in at Celtic, he helped settle a constantly changing back four last season and we still managed some superb goals-conceded stats. The likely outcome of staying at Newcastle would probably be to hope for a shot at 2nd fiddle. At Celtic he's part of the family and that will help him raise his game, we will make him better than Newcastle can and the rest is up to him. Welcome back big man!
I'm sorry, but it's a very poor signing in my eyes. For such a tall keeper, he rarely commands his box. His distribution is awful, not comfortable with kicking and just not dominant enough. How in gods name we've ended up with him instead of Pletikosa or Gordon is beyond me. Sorry but this is the 1st decision from Lennon that I strongly disagree on.
I am underwhelmed However he knows the team so wont need to settle in I won't blame Lennon for his purchase Lawell is still earning his bonus and as much as we love Lenny he has no more power than mowbray did on transfers If it wasn't for last seasons bigot fest we might be champs...but if it turned out the huns still won lawell would be getting chased with pitchforks But its the board who are at fault not just lawell...i should remember that
I think Forster is a good signing, it would be a great signing if it wasn't just a loan deal. It's far too easy to be critical of a goalkeeper because their mistakes are so glaring but he has to have contributed something to earning an SPL clean sheet record when he's had Maj/Loovens/Mulgrew/Rogne playing in front of him, none of whom I have real confidence in. In fact we've all seen Man Utd's new £18m goalkeeper make almost as many mistakes in 2 games as Forster made all season.
