Totally aware that this rumour has been around several times before....... I work in chandlers ford and get a taxi to work every morning from Eastleigh (Lazy i know) - and this morning my Taxi driver was a gent called John Frederick Howard. He is related to Brian Howard. Uncle if i remember correctly. On asking him how Brian is getting on as i know alot of his family around here he told me Brian is unhappy and has asked to leave again as he was only on the bench. I suggested Saints and Pompey and he told me that.... Saints were dragging there heels and Reading were asking more money from us due to the status of our finances, Pompey were unlikely candidtaed and the papers exagerated the reports and the most likely destination now is LEEDS UNITED??? He told me Brian wanted a 3 year contract at Saints but the strength we have in midfield now is likely to mean he would be a squad player as his prefered position is attacking Mid and not he wing. So Leeds??? We will see
I think Howard missed the boat (bus?) in January. He could have come here then, but it didn't happen for whatever reason.
Cant see either Maynard or Jay Rod wont be joining us now. Time to switch are attention to someone else, maybe Cortese already has for all we know.
Most clubs need money, despite some of the figures quoted in the media, I have a feeling when deadline day comes along, the temptation of getting cash up front from Saints will be very strong and we'll be able to do some business.
Agree, Solent said last night that Saints have denied all interest in Nicky Maynard but they didn't deny their interest in Rodriguez, however, they said the transfer fees being talked about are way off. I reckon we'll see someone unexpected arrive... I also expect to see Puncheon leave before long, maybe before anything else happens.
Read on that awful football-rumours about Saints ditching their move for Jay Rodriguez deciding not to pay over the odds - and turning their attention to Sean Scannell of Crystal Palace. Young and pacey, though hasn't scored too many goals yet. Would he be a player you guys would be happy to see us sign? Probably completely made up but I would be pretty pleased as he's fast if not faster than 4th choice Forte, with alot more skill/potential..he can also play on the wings.
I respect your opinion. It is obviously very well informed and the argument is well set out. Bravo good sir, bravo
You mean he is Jonno quick?!! He looks to have had a good start to the season, he won a pen the other night I think, maybe he has scored too, but to be honest I would rather have Jonno Forte seeing as Nige knows and seems to like him. I could see us going for Scannell if Pards was still around, don't know why just do!! Conman - Le Fondre is a strange one! I too think he is a good player, definitely at the level he is at. He always seem to score for Rotherham! I'm sure he could do a good job in League 1, but champ would be a gamble I feel. It's just odd how no one has bought him after he consistantly seems to do well, although I bet The Millers are happy about that!
I just look at the likes of Charlie Austin and Grant Holt who have made big jumps and continued their goalscoring. I think if we're not looking to spend the ridiculous amounts on Maynard or Roddy, then someone like le Fondre would be worth a punt.
Living in Lincoln I have seen a lot of Le Fondre. Not gonna see much this year. lol Not overly impressed though. Great at L2 level but not like he is a league above it or anything. With most of these good up and coming players they tend to look like a star on the pitch where he just looks like he is a little bit better than them. One I would've said did look a star was Ashley Grimes on loan at Lincoln last year. Scored a hatful of goals in a team that was absolute tripe (hence the relegation to the pink circle league) Maybe a bit below our needs now but I would rate him higher than Le Fondre.
I hear ya bud! The same could also be said for our own Sir Rickie of Lambertshire! I just wonder that seeing as we have not seen how well Barny can play in the champ then maybe they are pretty similar in that respect, so would it be good to have two players in that boat? Sorry, on that bus! Le Fondre is someone who I could not say no to, but not yes either! Maybe thats the problem with him?
