It was certainly marmite stuff tash, I'd be watching those early 'big nights out' creased double while my Mrs would be looking at me wondering if I'd been at the magic fungi <laugh>
That's the same as me and my missus when I watched re-runs of Monty Python.

Ministry of Silly Walks - I'm almost wetting myself laughing, my missus looked like this: :emoticon-0112-wonde:emoticon-0114-dull:

As a kid in Brid I saw Les Dawson, Ken Dodd, Charlie Williams etc. One who surprised us was the actor who played Seth in Emmerdale; really good as a comedian.

Seth did a turn at Fenners social club in the 80s. He was excellent. Saw Ken Dodd in Blackpool about 5 years ago. He was 84 at the time I think.
He was actually on stage 4 hours amazing. A true performer, no swearing, no filth just postcard humour. He has a belting voice too.

I saw quite a few at the Birkholme Country Club near preston. I saw Lyne Perry there Ivy from Corrie she was quite funny. She was dancing on the tables.

Ken Dodd Ya need a full night when ya see him. What a guy.

Id forgotten about Birkholme. I saw Stan Boardman there. His smile/grin was enough to make you laugh

We saw Dodd over 10 years ago he came on around half 7 had a break around 10 then came back in til 1 in the morning. There was a couple of singers in with him but only filling whilst he got changed.

I was ****ing starving when we came out, we'd planned to eat afterwards.

Scousers, good for nowt.

Was messing about on YouTube earlier on tonight, Michael Parkinson interviewing Les Dawson, Billy Connoly, Peter Sellers and the such and I somehow came across Dick Emery. Now some of his sketches were funny, bit like Benny Hill I suppose, but I don't recall him doing stand up comedy. But one thing I did realise when looking at some Dave Allen stuff was what a great orator he was when telling his jokes, his sketches were quite funny as well.

Doubt anyone could,or be allowed to replace the late great Bernard Manning.

Fat bast*** could make you laugh at a funeral.

A lot of Dave Allen's jokes were about everyday experiences that most people can relate to That's what makes a great comedian in my view. Victoria Wood's material was the same. When I showed my 20 year-old stepdaughter some clips of Dave Allen she found them very funny and she wasn't even born when he was delivering this stuff. The jokes stand the test of time though content will eventually date them.
