Redmond was in the final year of his contract Murphy has 4 plus an option (I think?) He should not go for less than £15m in my book. We don't need to sell and won't want to either, buyers should have to break the bank for us to even consider letting him go. Bah!
That is such a Norwich City Transfer story. I recon future addons will take it up to 4m. But only if Boro make the Champions League And Howson makes 10 England appearances.
Maybe they watched our shoddy dealings with Hull to get the Robbie Brady transfer over the line, so thought they'd give us a taste of our own medicine?
£100k a week for Terry is way too much but if he was a free transfer that makes it £5.2m a year . Villa will have one of the best defences next season , Terry never had pace and will find the Championship easy and I can see them top 2.
With Howson & Dorrans looking to be heading for the exit door, I hope we soon see some new players come through the entrance door. We haven't made any new signings since Zimmermann on June 16th. Hope we've got a quality player lined-up to replace JH when he goes
Like the last 2 seasons it's sell before we buy then drag it out to the last week saying we couldn't quite get the deals over the line. Hope I'm wrong
You may be right DD but this year, unlike previous, we'll be shopping for bargains and hidden gems and not trying to land players with greedy agents who string things out a bit. I've no doubt we have a shopping list but have to sell to buy first.
I reckon Terry and a decent left back as good as the 2 we sold would be enough to finish top 6. If we don't then fire sale the lot when the parachute money ends.
Wildschut? Wow, what a waste of money that was! Criminal. Was it £8m we paid for him? Crikey. Hardly seen him play.
Olsson Brady Redmond and Howson have been 4 of our best players add to that Jacob sold and we end up with a very average squad.
I get the impression this window will be more akin to Lambert than Hughton/Adams/Neil. As succinctly put by OCF above, we've downgraded somewhat from Marks & Spencer to Lidl / Aldi - great deals to be had, but trickier to source. Way to go, in my opinion, because after this season and the last of the parachute payments, we'll have no alternative - though I shall rue the day we start buying strikers from Forest Green Rovers
So sad to see JH leave but inevitable I guess. Can't think of anyone that we can afford in the UK (off the top of my head) that can do the same job
Howson has 2 years left and 29 years old , refusal to sign a new contract puts him in the driving seat to negotiate a move. Jacob has 4 years left and has at least 8 good years in him . Howson will be a bigger loss though IMHO
I agree whilst Murphy is developing well in terms of next season I don't see him as the sort of player we need to retain to get promoted. Only a superficial analysis of last season shows how much better we were as a team when Howson was available.
I am fairly sure that early in he season Martin was injured. JH was captain, and we were top of the league. Says a lot really.
Yep, and for the kind of prices mentioned, Boro are robbing us. Young wingers are dime a dozen, we've almost got a ready made replacement for Jacob in Josh! Not to mention the squad depth with Wildschut, Jarvis, Pritchard and Naismith also able to be deployed in a similar role. It's also a fairly easily defined role, which makes it easier for players to come in. There's a lot more nuance and experience needed from a central midfielder. Losing both Dorrans and Howson for perhaps £7-8m combined is a real worry. I don't think that's enough money to rebuild central midfield with anything like the same quality, never mind have money left over for defensive strengthening.
I've been impressed when I've seen him play and think this is an excellent way for him to develop - http://www.edp24.co.uk/sport/norwic...r-joe-crowe-poised-to-join-limerick-1-5090837.
