It has been reported in Germany that Leipzig have set a £70million asking price for the Guinea international, but the BBC claim that he has a £48million release clause in his contract that can be triggered in the summer of 2018.

Liverpool fans are presumably desperately hoping the club can complete a deal for Naby Keita, but they might not be too delighted to know that one of his footballing idols is none other than former Chelsea midfielder Deco.

Keita has been at the centre of a tug-of-war between his current club RB Leipzig and Liverpool all summer, with the Bunesliga club reportedly holding out for as much as £70 million for the 22-year-old.

Both Liverpool and Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk reportedly remain confident a deal can be concluded between the two clubs this summer.

Earlier in the window, the Reds issued an apology to Saints in regard to their pursuit of the centre-back and stated they had consequently ended their interest in the player. Southampton had reported Liverpool to the Premier League over a supposed illegal approach.

However, according to Oliver Kay of The Times, there is still a belief a deal can be done. The Anfield HQ Twitter account provided more details from Kay's report:

It remains to be seen if Jurgen Klopp and the Reds’ hierarchy will shell out anywhere near that amount of money for one player, but if Keita does end up heading to Merseyside, we’d strongly recommend he changes his Instagram username:

Southampton should cut out the middle man and forward him onto Liverpool.

And Everton have recently grabbed a keeper. Which means Liverpools hopes of a goalkeeping slapstick tribute to the 3 stooges will be complete if we can get Robles.

So once again you have made an agreement with a player before his club have agreed to sell. Will you never learn <doh>

Difference between being allowed to talk and agreeing a price
You did the same with Lindelof. Same was done with Salah, no problem there.

Plus we never got to contract talks with VvD

Not really, you are usually given permission to talk once a price "range" has been agreed, the method of payment comes later (payment in instalments, add-ons etc).
You/Klopp offered VvD £200k/week wages, that sounds pretty much like contract talks to me.

Never anything offical, no binding agreements (that was the problem). A promise that that would be offered.

If things have got this far with Keita then it can be assumed a 'price range' has been agreed and that RB will sell for an agreeable price, hence talks have been held with the player.

In the world of agents, I would guarantee contracts are agreed prior to most bids and transfers. Clearly wrong, but must be an epidemic across football

    Stop it, it's only football.
There are much more serious things in life for you to worry about when the time comes, for now just enjoy it.

How do you know a price range hasn't been agreed? Most transfers are done by getting agreement club is willing to sell and then talks are done about contract simultaneously to fee being agreed as helps speed things along.

Just going off previous mate, shake hands with the player before the club even knows (officially) of any interest.

    Think you are wrong D.

All that is needed is permission to talk to a player. Plenty of clubs give it when they have a certain price they are willing to sell at. If buying club doesn't make it then personal terms mean nothing.

Said it before...he has a buy out clause next year of 45M ...RB are making all the noises that they dont want him to go ...some true but some to get as much as possible if they do sell.

We offer 55m...either they take it or risk him going to us or a bigger club next year for 45m ...we may offer more but the idea should be the same

The buy out clause has only just been mentioned, any idea how true it is?
