How's the golf going? Is it making you wish you were back on your bike?

I love having a bike, haven't been able to do much sport over the last 10 years due to my knees and ankles and a bike is perfect. I got mine from a friend who seems to be like 90% of the people who posted here, he bought it to get fit and rode it once in 2 years. Lots of ****ing idiots on the road, mainly women in 4x4's that they can't drive properly. should be a rule that you can only drive a car of similar size and power to the one you passed your test in

Don't do what one of my mate did. Bought a bike for pretty much the same reasons. Started to get into it, and then one day he cycled out 40 kms. He was feeling good, had the wind behind him etc, so went as far as he could.

Then, it suddenly dawned on him that he had to cycle 40 kms back and into the wind too <doh>

I can ride a bike but wouldn't know where to start with using a bike for exercise.

I have a brand new mountain bike in the shed, nothing spectacular bought from halfords

I stopped motorbikes as the roads are not worth it IMO, abroad sure but here nah

Would love to cycle to town etc but its nasty on the roads

Anyone using cycling as purely a form of exercise, so not to work etc but a few km as a sort of workout, what tips do you have for a novice?

Sounds like my tale is the same as many on here. Bought a Giant through the cycle to work scheme, along with shoes, helmet, padded shorts etc. Rode it once and now sits proudly in the Garage. Best £800 I've ever spent :headbang:<wah>

I guess it all depends on your situation, for example, I haven't got brats, don't own a car, use zip-car instead, and live 5-10 minute walk from one of the best transport hubs 'saaf' of London. If you want to use it for fitness, start small, go for a leisurely ride in the sunshine and ride slowly past scantily clad ladies.
I'm sure after a week of that you'll look forwards to bit of exercise.

Actually as I was reading @Big Ern post and thinking its a rat race off my estate for biking for leisure I realised there is the perfect spot not far off by car but too far by bike. Flat, quiet, water perfect

What I need is a bike rack so can transport myself and bike there, have a leisurely ride and transport back.

Any ideas with bike racks? Are they all pretty much same or car specific? Would be used to transport a mountain bike on a Mercedes CLA
