Inspired by the preseason thread.

Name the three roughest boozers you've frequented in Hull.

1. Elephant and Castle mid 90's. An absolute air of menace as soon as you walked in. A mate was a 'local' so I was just about safe in there. Hostile doesn't come close.

2. Skippers. As a lad from that neck of the woods with plenty of the clientele old school mates you might think I'd feel comfortable in the place. Wrong, full of nutters and arse holes.

3. Tam Tams. Full of bams ( as Irvine Welsh would say) and definitely not for the faint hearted. Rough as arseholes.

that was my local.

The Eagle, sadly missed for me, even away fans welcome. Our first year in the Prem with West Ham, Chelsea & Newcastle fans. Great place RIP.

Only ever went in Eagle pre-City at home, not sure what is was like any other time (though I can guess).

I really liked it in there, especially the circular bar. Had a proper pub feel to it.

I never realy saw any fights growing up in Bev; used to go to Nellies, Green Dragon, Kings Head to start with and end up in Push (now Grapes), Beaver or Cross Keys (now a spoons).

Heard of plenty of fights between squaddies in Push but i think they banned em in the end.

Seems very sheltered compared to you lot!

When i moved to Hull it was mainly Gardners then end up at Asylum, Welly, Piper, Sugar, Spiders or Pozition. Again they were soft places.

That only lasted a few months, (Wackers) and it's now closed. It's due to become a Chicken George takeaway.

Was that anything to do with Wackers in Scarborough? That serves pretty decent fish and chips.

The Grapes, on Ferry Lane where the bridges are next to B&Q, was run by an alchy landlord that was a nutter. At closing time his favourite refrain at the top of his voice was "sup off and **** off." Once a drunken customer had an argument with his girlfriend and threw himself in the river, he got stuck in the mud and when the fire brigade came the landlord peered over the side and shouted "leave the daft bastard there!"

Bull, Rose, Park and Station on Bev Road. A decent little pub crawl was that. Though you had to ensure your tetanus injections were up to date before going in.
