Newcastle are to offer £8m, and play hardball to get him. Er, he has 4 years left on his contract, he will be worth more in January than he is now, and he is worth a lot more than £8m now, so just how do Newcastle expect to be in a position to play hardball. Deluded springs to mind.

Assuming of course he doesn't break his leg in the first game of the season, however for me 8m isn't enough bearing in mind how many are interested in him and the length of his contract. If money wasn't such an issue I'd definately keep him for at least another year. Trouble is we desperately need to strengthen our defence if we're to get promoted and if we have to sell Murphy to do it then so be it. If we get into the double figures he'll go especially as we have decent cover for his position, having said that I really wish we'd kept Canos.

With five (5) premier league clubs sniffing around before the window even opens, it's a fair bet he'll be gone. (Shame there are not five clubs eyeing up Naismith instead!)
Selling Jacob for less than £10-11m with four years left on his contract would be delinquent of the club. Plus he's only going to get better, so if they all back off we've lost nothing.
But when you're talking of £20m for Nathan Ake to Bournemouth and a £70m price tag put on Virgil van Dyke, (see BBC gossip column today) you know it's silly season.
Lunacy to dispose of Canos at all, this (Murphy's star rising) could and should have been predicted / had proper contingency plans in place. But oh no, this is NCFC we're talking <yikes>
 
The trouble is, no one could predict the way in which Jacob developed over the season, effectively preventing Canos getting any game time and yes, it was typical of NCFC t then sell Canos. <doh>

We should be looking at young players from lg1 for about £1m or a free agent .
We don't need to buy anyone at the top end of the pitch.
2 left backs and a centre back spending the money from selling Dorrans and another ageing player who still holds some value like Naismith those 2 must be worth £6m

Evidently we've told Leeds they can re-sign Howson for a paltry £5M which beggars fecking belief if true, so we would bite Newcastle's hand off if they offered anywhere near £8M for JM if you ask me.
We spend £8.5M on that useless over the hill turd Naismith and £7M on Wildsh1t and will in all probability let to players leave for a combined fee of £13M when we should be looking to get at least twice that. You really couldn't make it up!<doh>

I pre ordered a Jacob 22 shirt at a reasonable £89.23p including postage and packing so I will feel quite foolish if we sell him.:emoticon-0136-giggl

Actually KIO, you ARE making it up, with the help of lazy journos, why not save your ire for when (if) it actually happens? ;)
 
I liked what I saw of this guy. He is a leader, he looks great fun off the pitch. He's a very decent CB too. Surely they wouldn't sell him?
