Nickname is El Flaco, which means 'skinny'/'the skinny one'.

Also known as Longaniza, which is a type of long, thin sausage.

He's six foot five, apparently.
being of identical stature I fully approve this appointment! (even if my daughters referred to me as daddy long legs) I just hope he doesn't put his back out celebrating all those goals next season!

After page after page of Man U and Spurs fans talking **** about us, I found this comment, Thought it was worth pasting over here.

As a Watford fan I'm used to similar comments about our head coaches that I'm seeing on this article. Southampton finished 8th but were only 6 points off 17th, by all accounts played a pretty horrible style of football, and it seems that Puel never built a rapport with the fans. I'm not saying don't comment on other teams, but do some research beyond "they finished 8th, what more do they want?"

Dear God, someone on the internet gets it. <yikes>

Nice read. I'm very pleased with the appointment & our usual professionalism. Got the job done before Palace even tho all the press had them way in front of us. Regardless of the reasons why we sacked Puel & we've all got our own ideas & theories, none of us really know why. Les & co have done pretty well by us over the years & so I'm still (just) "in Les I trust". I like everything I read about MP2 and I never had
that feeling about Puel right from the off. So here's hoping we've got it right "again". I suppose the litmus test will be if any of the "big 6" try to poach him in 1-2 years. "Hope so"! <laugh>

He dislocated his shoulder celebrating an Estudiantes goal a few seasons back!

As with all of our appointments, I will fully back the new man and I hope for his sake that he keeps us in the top ten otherwise our stupid, self entitled fans will get on his back and we will have yet another new manager next season.

Welcome Mauricio and the very best of luck.

Raises a question...

Wonder if those who disliked the style will be happier with 12th and exciting football?

Or those saying not really 8th with 46 points would consider 10th and 50 an improvement?

Me for one. 8th (joint 17th? - as some might say) with pretty dire excitement was poor (yep, imo) & even surprising for me & im a stats man. 12th & exciting is what I want (!) vs dodgy 8th & flat. Obviously I'd prefer "cake/eat". Hey & don't ever forget, I'm red &white through & through regardless of decisions & who & what & that includes Puel, (for 1st 8 months at least).

With all this talk of our new manager;

I had the pleasure of meeting our old manager Mr. Nigel Adkins tonight. What a lovely, lovely man. I turned into a right fan girl but did manage to thank him for all he had done for the club. Glad I got to let him know how much he and the league one days meant to me as a fan. Absolute legend

Raises an even bigger question:

So what if we finish bottom half and the football is or isn't great? So what if we finish 16th? What do our fans expect (not want)?

Our fans need to start showing some patience. Nothing is a given and we are entitled to nothing. If this manager has a poor first season then he should still start the second season as long as we are not relegated. Sometimes things don't go as planned and as long as there are some signs things can improve, he should be given a chance. It may just take time.

I hope Mauricio does the business, but I'll be looking at some of our fans as much as him.

*that'll make me popular :)

This summer I have occasionally found myself thinking that a relegation battle could be welcome. It might restore some awareness among our fans of how difficult it is to compete in this league.

(In blue, obviously).
