Feeling old
. Most people in my office wouldn't have any idea that once upon a time sweets were bought by pointing at a jar and having them weighed out for you.

Loved sports mixtures, especially the black ones.
You can still buy them but they don't taste the same as back in the day.
Also those big barley twist sticks, just pure sugar and aniseed.
My Grandad had a sweet shop just off Hylton Terrace in North Shields and l remember my Nan used to make these amazing cinder toffee lollies.
She poured the toffee into jam tart cases and popped a wooden lolly stick into the mixture to set. Then you took the lolly out of the case licked it all day and then put it back.
Those lollies lasted for ages, couldn't do it now though with all the environmental health stuff.

Since we are being nostalgic my brother lives not far from Hylton Terrace up in Chirton.
Also it was always floral gums for me.
Is there still that olde times shoppe on the quay that sells sweets that way?

I did like a Strawberry Bon Bon or some Kola Kubes. Sometimes I'd get a mix of Kola Kubes and Pineapple Chunks.
My favourite sweet is undoubtedly Giant Strawbs. I did go through spells of loving Wham Bars, Caramacs. I still love a Cadburys Fudge even though I'm not really a sweet person these days (in all senses of the word
)

Choc Lick! The joy when you managed to find a large chunk of m&m or malteaser!
I don't remember those ones. I used to love the chocolate chews. All those fake things too: Fake teeth, fake cigarettes, fake tobacco pipes
Choc Lick was just grinded up chocolate. I'm sure my local shop just made their own. Probably just the waste from broken chocolate bars and what they scraped off the floor. Just had to dip a licked finger into it. It was a race to eat it all before the paper bag disintegrated into a soggy mess.
O aye. Used to love the cherry lips too. Both did stick in the teeth though.
I've heard you are bang into Choc Lick. ACS reckons you are pretty ravenous for it.
Whoever thought making sweets in the shape of cigarettes was a good idea. I remember them being quite nice though.
