I haven't visited any alt right sites or been battling against the alt right but as far as i am aware Snowflake has been used to describe someone who is easily offended.

Wiki has mentioned its usage all over the show by everyone

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Generation_Snowflake

@Beefy , you might not have been offended and that's fair enough but why bother fighting about the usage of such a word anyway when it's not a word that was created by the right, is used by everybody and didn't add to original argument. By fighting it you have made it look like you were offended by its usage (as you put, you associate it with the right).

Snowflake is used all over the guardian as it is a general term so i have no idea why this is an right wing only word

Going to have to disagree their Imp.

I think intent is a very big part of what makes something offensive and inoffensive and whilst i agree that your dad meant nothing of it, there are standards to be applied especially in public.

You guys might not have been offended and that is fine as i believe their needs to be common sense but if i was to go out onto a street and start shouting WHATS UP MY NIGGAZ and NEGROS, even if i didn't mean anything by it, i would expect that this is not the normal behaviour and would expect that i have offended people.

There needs to be a rule in place so that people can't use certain words to be racially offensive and whilst i appreciate you may get away with it in a private space as you will be familiar with the people you are speaking to and can apply common sense to whether someone was being offensive or not, there needs to be a law in place because it is far easier to police rather than having to apply common sense to something that cannot be interpreted without being there and knowing the context

I so agree about using certain words in public............One of my life long friends is of African persuasion with a coloured skin to match. However our banter between ourselves could easily be mis-construed by others listening in. Him calling me a white Honky or me calling him a black twat could lead us both to the courts for racialism. Although we have probably been saying that or similar to each other like that for ever. No offence was ever meant or taken.......
However that is not what we would say to others, or at least I wouldn't.
However my mate was picked up the other day for calling what turned out to be his son, a black Twat I gather. Shall we say a heated discussion took place between my friend and this person who I gather was also of African persuasion. Despite my friends son explaining that it was just harmless banter between father and son.
The guy said he was insulted just to hear it and was going to report them to the authorities..............I'm not sure the authorities will have much of an interest on this occasion but it does make you think as to the slogan of free speech in public if this is likely to be the future of PC. So now you can not talk or joke with your own family and friends in public?? For fear of offending someone else who might be listening to your conversation? Interesting thought......possibly..........

Again it's the context. On social media, which this place is. The term has very much been taken by the alt-right. Sure other people use it, but that doesn't mean you won't come off looking like you are alt-right.

The real problem with using the term snowflake. Is that is really the person that says it who is finding it hard to change their outdated views.

Fair play to Theresa May, on congratulating John Bercow on his re-election (unopposed) to the post of Speaker of the House of Commons, her first words were: "At least someone got a landslide!".

I guess we will just have to agree to disagree.

I don't see how a word used in common language, across media in both left and right wing can be construed as something that is alt-right.

Firstly there are two arguments to this. 1. whether Snowflake is even alt-right and i have no idea why you think not thinking it is alt right is an outdated view.

    2. Imps argument is that whether it is alt-right or not, it's usage and intent in virgils argument wasn't to be used as a alt-right view but to describe the thin skinned generation we are part of. I suppose i'm not allowed to snows coming down from the sky snowflakes anymore?

As for context, i would say this place is more like a discussion forum amongst "friends". At the very least this isn't exactly social media whereby people are trying to get as many views and visits from anyone or a hotbed or right/left wing activity

And some (righty) people think that they won't be holding the government to ransom to support their narrow, sectarian agenda....

There is no narrow sectarian agenda. The 10 DUP MPs are ready to serve all of the people. Well all except ... (list to follow)

A life long mate of mine hails from Pakistan. A few years back, we were working together on a conference I'd arranged. Without being aware of it, I'd allocated the worst room to him. He was kicking off big style, partly because the room wasn't big enough for his ego, but mostly it lacked natural light and everyone else was looking out over wonderful Surrey countryside. I pointed out that someone had to take that room. "Why me?" he asked. "Why not?" I said. "You've put me there because I'm the Paki, haven't you?" "Too right." Pins were heard dropping! <whistle>

Going back to the early 60s an Indian mate of mine was getting married to a Swedish girl. His brother could not attend as was hoped, as he was stuck at sea and could not get to the wedding on time. So I stepped in as best man for him. After the wedding I stood up to make a speech. Wishing the happy couple all the best etc........during my speech I made a couple of references about different cultures and the problems they would face. Mentioning the word swede. Afterwords most people told me how they enjoyed my humour. All multi nationals and in particularly about my use of comical words without being offensive.
However a few weeks later, my mate returned from honeymoon and was told by his mum that she felt I was insulting his bride by using the word Swede.
The point I'm making I guess is out of probably 120 people there and despite most actually seeing the funny side of things there is always one that is most likely to see or hear something which to them has a different meaning.
Mind you the names my mate and I called each other in private would have sent his mother into a loony bin is all I can say!!

If anyone thinks the UK is going to get a fabulous deal out of Europe, then think again. We got our knickers in a twist with Europe. We had that catastrophe Farage insulting them every day, while we were helping to make policy and making sure that we were part of the decision making processes within Europe. Now we have no part of that. Europe could freeze the UK out if they wanted, and they have absolutely no reason to be generous, but thankfully there's a lot of European investment in the UK, so they won't haul us over the hot coals too much. But they are ready, while we are floundering. What a balls up.
