Correct. Thanks to the key phrase "and have ended their interest in the player". If he hands in a request and Liverpool step in with a bid, it's only logical that Soton then take the steps that they would've taken were it not for this apology.

Oh well. We won't sign him, and the club have truely ****ed up.

Jeez, the talking potatoes have arrived, lots of chips on their shoulders.

Stick to the dedicated hate thread on your own board lads.

Yep. Really, really stupid. Don't know what Klopp was thinking but I highly doubt things are that much more lax over in Germany that he could claim ignorance of FA protocol.

What I find intriguing is that Soton no doubt know that his departure is inevitable - either this window or next summer - and could've made a massive windfall on it by selling to you guys. Everyone else balked at the insane price tag they slapped on him (he's worth £35m tops imho), yet you seemed willing to pay. Soton stood to gain enormously by overlooking Klopp's error, but they haven't.

My gut feeling is that this is more about pride than pockets. You've spent the past 5 years picking off their best and brightest stars, and the feeling seems to very much be "enough is enough, this ends here".

Oh well. We'll live

At that price you may well be right.

I was very impressed by that Matip bloke last season and he barely cost you anything.

He was free <ok>

He has his moments but he's certainly better than what else we've got!

VVD would have been a great partner alongside him though, and he's already used to the league which was another bonus.

Oh well, we'll move on!

Be interesting to know if the Klopp meeting is true...Was Klopp thinking he had the go ahead to talk directly to player and if so who told him he could or fid he just go rogue lol

Hahaha, fu<king knew it.

Salah deal falling through and now had to pull out of any deal for Van Dijk. 2nd and 3rd picks it is yet again

Have to say, it was silly money for a bloke who missed a lot of the season injured. Yes he would improve us but i think any decent CB would at this stage.

Asking for the 50/60 million they wanted is just unnecessary money.

You are paying for the 5 years he has left in his deal I would guess

He wasn't from Southampton so wanted to team lovren and VVD together

Hope we actually stop doing business with yourselves now. Embarrassing for both teams

I agree it's getting that way.

From that statement my guess is Klopp did meet him without any contact between the clubs and the board didn't know about it.

Now they've realised they're bang to rights with an illegal approach, they have been advised to withdraw from it all.
