So just the 4 'keepers then, Rudd, Jones, McGovern and now Gunn. I feel bad for Rudd, he agreed to stay an extra year knowing Ruddy was leaving and he'd be competing with McGovern for number 1 status, but now he'll be back on the bench at best. There's no way Gunn would join without Man City receiving reassurances about his game time.

Wouldn't surprise me if Rudd is sold, he's got some value which is more than can be said for half our squad. Equally I couldn't blame him for trying to force his way out.

Gunn. A City lad, City highly rate him. I think if we can get rid of McGovern and Jones, then we will have 2 talented young keepers on board. I don't know if either is ready for a whole Championship season. Rudd has been waiting a long, long time. Maybe it's his time to step up.

Gunn has bags of talent. It could turn out he could excel at this level.

Would I feel comfortable about starting the season with the Keepers available right now? Not totally, but if we are going to put more faith in Rudd or Gunn, then I think we need to clear out the old Keepers who aren't good enough.

I Think the club will certainly be looking to offload 1 or even two of the keepers, that includes Rudd, that contract extension looks very much a move by the club to ensure we get maximum return on him departing. My choice would be for him and Gunn to fight it out for No.1 with Jones as backup, Mathews out on loan again and hopefully rid of McGovern. McGovern unfortunately I suspect will be another who will happily except an inflated pay check til his contract winds down. I do feel a little sorry for Rudd, but if Gunn proves to be better between the sticks, then ultimately what evers best for City is fine by me.

    Bah!

Sell Rudd, at 26 he needs to be No1 and if Gunn arrives that will not happen here. Get rid of McGovern and make Mathews No2. Leaving Jones as back up and a new young(ish) 4th.

I was so gutted we lost him, because of Bryan getting a job in Manchester, so his family moved. City snapped him up, as he was seen as a future England prospect. The people who decide, set compensation, and it was sod all.

I'm really glad to see him back, it's really nice to have a Norwich born and raised realistically competing for a starting place.

He's not looking too good hey?

If his son plays anywhere near how he looks, we have just signed the English David De Gea!

£250k + add-ons, we wanted £1m apparently. I'm curious if him being on loan with us actually makes us money through add-ons! Or at least get him closer to a position where it does.

Even 1M for him is not much. He will be a future Prem regular.

Well, that'll be covered by the add-ons. He was only 16 when he left us, which is especially young for a 'keeper! I'm not surprised the fee was fairly low. Rudd's only just moved beyond "promising youngster" recently, and he's 26!

Gunn is Man City 3rd choice keeper.

    Where as Rudd....

I'm not comparing their relative potential, only that Rudd has only relatively recently moved from someone we expect to improve with age, to someone who has probably found his level. And that's taken until he's around 24-25. A 16 year old goalkeeper could easily need 8-10 years of development before they hit the level they're capable of.

So whilst a 16 year old goalkeeper can undoubtedly show potential, the buying club need to commit to that development period. In comparison, young wingers for example seem to make an impact on the first team at a much younger age. I'm sure it wouldn't take long to name 10 wingers who made a first team debut before the age of 18, but goalkeepers would be far harder. Therefore you'd expect a young winger to command a much greater tribunal fee than a goalkeeper.

Wow really excited signing a rookie 'keeper on loan, should really help with the promotion push. Money would have been better spent on a permanent deal for Dijks.

Not even thinking about Gunn but not taking Dijks is a massive cock up.

I think it probably shows just how tight finances are.

Dijks was rumoured to cost around €4m I think? That seems pretty reasonable these days for a first choice LB with some flexibility to play CB. I don't think we can afford it. We still want two first choice CBs too, and possibly another LB, and another CAM for traditions sake...

Just to spend equal amounts on each defender would be £15m+. I think we're probably looking to spend sub £2m on each player, so Dijks is to much.

It just makes me even more annoyed by the pointless Wildschut signing in January, when we knew finances were tight and promotion unlikely.
