I think we 'got out' just in time; roughly a decade ago under BMJ. The flipside of the insane TV money is that the people on the other end of those TV's across the world will disproportionately favour and invest in the biggest clubs. Even though the TV money is divided 'equally' @ £85m per team, the reality is that the greater exposure will only open up another vicious cycle whereby the biggest clubs will build the biggest global fanbases and consequently attract the biggest sponsorship deals external to the overall TV money. Again - we're a great example of this. Levy cleverly used Brad Friedel and others to get us a foot in the US market, then used the one truly global superstar we've ever had (Bale) to batter the door down (NBC, Ted Lasso etc.), and hey presto - a few years later starts negotiating one of the biggest trans-atlantic sports deals of all time with the NFL.

Yep. Although that money is designed to level the playing field, there are far more factors at play for the big clubs being able to exert their influence.

I'm beginning to put the pieces together. Looks like HIAG turned the PL board into his own personal playground then the bloke who has the server in his loft threw all the kids out and locked the gates.

EDIT: Some of the threads on here are mental <laugh>

Well done on the win today by the way. I was dreading the most boring final day in living memory but top 4 race could be quite exciting.

We made heavy weather of it. It all comes down to the last day now. If we win and Liverpool don't then we sneak into the top 4 at the death.

I think the gulf is here to stay until clubs either start looking into producing talent, like Southampton do or they get Arab/Russian money. Having produced the talent, they need to keep hold of it. This is the hard bit. I suppose if everyone gets equal amounts from tv money then it's still the same scenario as before since the top clubs get the top up too.

A way to maybe fastrack the progress of a club from mid table to top 7 would be to spend a lot of the money in paying wages as that would attract a higher calibre of player so long as the club is progressing as a whole. Clubs need to employ psychologists when looking for players to avoid landing mercenaries. For example, Only an idiot like Brendan would purchase Balotelli, I wouldn't and nor would you.

That's what Spurs had to do. Shop a bit wiser for very good players, not top notch yet, then pay them, not massive wages but a bit more than those below top 6/7. Now that helped us get regular 5/6. Done the research on the manager and got one that develops youngsters. Now we are talking about 3rd place and upwards.

I honestly think there's more ways than to spend spend spend, in order to find success. However the infrastructure of the club has to be sound. It's no coincidence that we are the most progressive of clubs without a doubt in our ascent up the league on a consistent basis and for that credit goes to Daniel Levy for running a tight ship with a long term plan.

Everton can move up a notch with some better internal organisation as they have the basis of a few star players, top coach and money to pay decent wages(70k etc)

Southampton have the best infrastructure, they just need a brave chairman who wants to build a team.

You can cut that crap. The words chocolate and teapot come to mind after today - or are you currently giving BRB a dressing down for mismanagement?
