Do you not think you had an advantage physically over the other sides in the top 6, considering you played a lot less fixtures than all of them?

No because they all had bigger squads and fewer injuries anyway

A lot less, or on average, one fewer game per month?

Considering we used a smaller core squad, our main players probably played more minutes of football than the teams who played "a lot more games".

The lot more games angle is a bit of a herring.

Every team has a first 11, and using the squad weakens that 11, regardless of how strong the squad is. Being able to play the first 11 every week in the league is a huge advantage.

You say you have a small core of players than the others, that may be true in some cases, but it's not entirely true. Spurs squad is probably as small.

Either way you are going to have to significantly strengthen if you are going to maintain top 4 next season. And I don't think your in the same position financially as a few of the others to do so.

So we can expect a similar performance from you next year then?

Had we had a relatively injury free year and Mane available in Janury, then yes. In fact, before we lost Hendo, Lallana and Mane to the Acon, we were better.

What does that tell us? Chelsea were lucky with injuries? Yes, perhaps.....as were Leiceater the year before.....but for me it tells us we lack real quality in depth.

So a first 11, yes

Squad, no....not even close.

I don't know the stats of how many minutes the core players on each team played, I imagine Milner put in more minutes than the first choice left back at most other top 6 teams, Firmino did more minutes than the average attacking midfielder. If you compare us to Chelsea, Arsenal City, Spurs, or United, we really don't have much depth or ability to rotate. We've cut out most of the Deadwood since Klopp arrived, but unfortunately not replaced it.

I would be sorely disappointed if we don't improve.
It strongly depends on what we do in the transfer window. Overall I think we've had a very poor season. Yeah, we have a decent chance at 4th but the team has been very poor.

Agree. That's why we could compete with the top 6 but over a grinding season, that's not enough. We have to expect injuries. Our best 11 is as good as any but once one or two of our best 11 gets injured/suspended/on international duty, we fall well short. We start dropping points against minnows.

Now that we've got CL, Klopp has to reinforce our squad this summer and allow to compete in more than one competition. Our cup teams were just woeful.

The closest currently in terms of first 11 is Spurs by quite some way, I'd even argue that Spurs team is stronger than Chelsea's. I think Chelsea's edge on Spurs this season has been not playing European football.

You guys are along way off either Spurs or Chelsea, only Coutinho would get a game at either club. You had everything in your favour this season with no European football and you still couldn't mount a serious challenge. Its only going to get even tougher next year when you have so many more fixtures. Think you'll do well to finish even 6th with the current squad you have.

Shove it up yer dirty manc ****ter <laugh>
