With Daniel Sturridge failing to even make the bench for Chelsea's match against Stoke today and our obvious need for a new striker (or New Striker, if you prefer), might this be the right time to put in a bid for the England U21 forward? He was recently overlooked for the England squad by Fabio Capello, being left out of the call-up for the postponed friendly against the Netherlands, in favour of Man Utd's Danny Welbeck. A continued lack of first team opportunities at Chelsea would surely see him eyeing the exit door, though a loan may placate him temporarily. Would people be in favour of signing him, if it were possible? If so, would you accept him as the first choice striker or would you prefer a more established name? Lastly, would you take him as a loan from Chelsea for the season?
The obvious reply from The Chavs, would be to try and link any deal for Sturridege, with a deal for Modric. You can see it coming a mile off. I rate Sturridge, I think he's a good striker. However, trying to do any deal with The Chavs could be fraught with hassle.
No, if Sturridge isnt good enough for Chavski then he isnt good enough for Spurs, why should we send one of our best players to Chelsea and receive one of their bench players (sometimes) in return. For me Sturridge has potential to become a good striker, but is not what we need at the moment. We need a finished article striker who can play up on his own, we have enough young strikers with potential.
I'd like Sturridge only if it was completely separate from a Modric deal and also would want a permanent deal not a loan move.
I just came on here to make the same point, PNP. Unfortunately I can't see it happening, as others have said, Chelsea wouldn't want to do a deal with us if we continue to rebuff their approaches for Modric. Also, wasn't it reported that he was on £50-60kpw when he signed for Chelsea? I can't see us getting rid of the likes of Keane and Bentley only to replace them with more squad players on the same wages.
Top proven quality needed. A back up striker for them, is not much better than we have already. Being english, the press over hype his ability. They will never sell to us except as a make weight. A good chance of him being another Carlton Cole or a Chris Armstrong. We must aim higher.
We can't afford or attract top proven quality though, we need to take a punt on someone with potential.
Spot on. We have to accept that Levy is not going to pay the going rate to attract top talent. Even any deal to bring Adebayor in, would be contingent on City continuing to pay at least half of his current wage.
I still say he is not good enough, at best we will only tread water with this type of player. I agree he was good for Bolton, but not good enough for City to make a real effort to up his contract or for Chavski subs bench. Why would Chelsea sell him to us? Money has no real meaning to them. They have already ochestrated a whole summer campaign to underbalance us.
Nobody is saying that they would sell to us. Certainly not without trying to link it to a deal for Modric, IMO. Personally, however, I think he's a good, proven, premiership striker. Unfortunately for him, both The Chavs and Citeh have better options, and that's why he couldn't get a regular starting place.
Sorry to be crude but it's a bit like having somebody's cast offs . In crumpet terms I am sure I good do a little better.
City and Chavski have unlimited funds though so can choose who they want, we do not so have to set our sights lower.
How odd that Lee Dixon on MOTD2 thought Drogba would be at Spurs by the end of the window! ...interestingly during the day I read His contract extension talks have stalled with only 1yr being offered, over the requested 2. I agree any dabblings with Chelski could involve Modric, however the 'we'll give you our 5th choice striker, for your best player' idea does seem too stupid to even suggest, or we could just be told to 'do one' out of spite....more likely! "Even any deal to bring Adebayor in, would be contingent on City continuing to pay at least half of his current wage." ...which as far as they're concerned is much better than continuing to pay him the full amount for doing nothing. There's no takers to buy him outright yet
I know he's a recognised pain in the arse, but I still find it hard to believe that NOBODY wants him - He's a quality striker. Unless there's something we don't know?
So AnyBuyer can't find any buyers? Not really a surprise, he's proved himself to be a money chasing mercenary - and I don't hink any club in the PL would buy him & all his 'issues' outright simply because of the money he's supposedly on.
I don't see what difference banned or otherwise would make, Torres, Drog, Kalou, Anelka...if they're all fit there's no bench room anyway!
