'We're In Talks': Klopp confirms Liverpool are very close to signing 'brilliant' €38m powerhouse on a new deal
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is increasingly convinced that Emre Can will sign a new contract in the coming weeks.

At the end of March, Klopp confirmed that Liverpool are 'in talks' with Can, and when asked on Friday about ongoing discussions, he told reporters:

“It's no secret how much I like Emre. We're in talks. There is no pressure. All is good. I am quite positive. Keeping good players makes sense and Emre is a good player."

I'm shocked that they've only just realised this. He's the only fella in the team all season that has pace and can take a man on.....we all knew we needed to buy someone else in January....just hope that it doesn't come back to haunt us now.

Would take the punt on Ox for £20m or less.

Naby Keita is exactly what we need in midfield. We need to go all out for him

Relegated Sunderland will be doing very well to keep hold of their star keeper Jordan Pickford after another impressive performance at the weekend against Hull.

Liverpool are among a host of top clubs chasing the talented Englishman in the summer, with Arsenal, Everton, Manchester City, Manchester United AND West Ham all interested, according to The Telegraph.

His chances of being the first-choice No.1 will likely have an impact on any decision the young keeper makes as he pushes for an England spot.

A fee upwards of £25m is being reported.

Not sure of buying this goalkeeper from Sunderland. Yet to get over the shock of buying Simon Mignolet from Sunderland:huh:.

I agree, sort the defence out and protect our keeper more.

Awoniyi emerged to produce this week’s big positive, netting a late winner off the bench to hand NEC Nijmegen a crucial 2-1 win over AZ Alkmaar.

Manager Peter Hyballa turned to Awoniyi to make the difference with just seven minutes left with NEC held at 1-1 but needing victory as they desperately fight relegation from the top-flight – and the striker made the perfect impact.

Taking up a clever position between two Alkmaar defenders in the box, Awoniyi rose to meet a brilliant cross delivered from the left and powered home a header from six-yards out.

Team of the week on BBC...

    Ryan Bertrand

This lad has become a top-class performer. To watch his development at Southampton has been a real pleasure. We all knew that he was a player as a youngster at Chelsea - the question was: What sort of player?
He showed maturity beyond his years when he surprised us all and performed so well in the 2012 Champions League final in Munich, but it all seemed to come too soon.
Since leaving Stamford Bridge he has become the master of his own destiny and looks more accomplished the more I see him. Against Liverpool, who appeared to get more desperate with every minute, Bertrand look composed and in control.
Even when he picked up his yellow card for kicking the ball away he knew precisely what he was doing; stopping the ball from re-entering the field of play before the Saints could reassemble. He took a booking for the team.
Should Liverpool qualify for Champions League football next season I seriously suggest Jurgen Klopp gets his chequebook out and pay whatever it takes to take Bertrand to Anfield. The player is in that class.

Mahrez will want to move and his price has dropped with an indifferent season, not sure how he would fit but I would rather him than the Gooner but understand the need for pace.

Ryan Bentrand we are desperate for a LB. He fits the bill Southampton can have Moreno.

Pass on Bertrand. He's alright but doesn't offer great deal going forward. He's 28 so really how long would he be able to get up and down pitch for, another 1 or 2 years? Probably cost around £20m as well.

Better value out there for sure.

Agreed, lets look younger and outside England (and outside bloody Soton)

Cast the net wider and find someone better and cheaper.
