I started to notice last season that Jonny Howson kept getting left as the last man whilst centre halves, who never score, go up. Not only does that take one of our best attackers out of the box, today it led to Howson's sending off. Like many things under Grayson, it doesn't make any sense.
I guess the logic behind it is that we're meant to score first time from a header when the corner's taken. Sadly that never happens as we've not had a good corner taker, relying on Snodgrass and Kilkenny who've been average at best. I thought Nunez might be something of a set pieces revelation. Guess we'll have to see now he's got the chance with Gradel and Howson out. Make the most of it, Ramon! We need you.
But Howson is good in the air and is a forward player who scores goals, so he has a better chance of scoring than a defender who never scores goals.
Is he good in the air? I've never really noticed that. He scores the odd header when unopposed but I haven't noticed him beating many defenders to the ball. Doesn't seem to win it in midfield very often when he has to deal with the centre backs' odd hoof.
Worst midfielder at heading ive seen, apart from Doyle I suppose. Howson is last man Clivetime cos he cant win the headers, dint you learn anything at school?
