What a result - sounds like Seabourne had a blinder. Ipswich will be a tougher test imo but today proves that the Saints are buzzing with confidence and sky's the limit
Just a heads up, BBC may show highlights/goal now!! They just did Birmingham!! Not promising anything though!!
Get in Lads! Sounds like we were comfortable for most of the game, bit nervy at the end but ground out the win! What a start we are having. And at least we have good cover in midfield for Chappers, is it 3 games out for a straight red or am I being stupid?! Will be interesting to see if Oxo comes on for Arsenal, good luck to the lad if he does. On to Ipswich on Tuesday, should be our toughest test yet.
Yeah 3 games, Not too worried but a little blow. Think we have stronger squad depth than ipswich so may benefit us playing on tuesday night!
Superb win. Shame about Chappers but I'm sure he will learn from it. Will have to see how bad the tackle was on the FL show. Ipswich will be tough but at least they lost 1-nil at home to Hull. Same team, same mentality and we can make it 3 wins out of 3 COYR!
Better for us if true! I just had a feeling Gobern got a 3 match ban for his kung fu antics against the Cherries! If we are to stick with the current formula it just means that Schneiderlin will be coming off the bench first instead of Chappers having done so the last few games and i'm happy with that, Morgan needs to play! Will be interesting to see if we start Fox/Martin/Schneiderlin/De Ridder at Ipswich. I suppose it depends on how much today took out of our lads.
At least Chaplow should be out for a couple of games. Good result but it sounded like we should have seen if these northern minows a lot earlier.
Defence sounded brilliant today - great job holding on through the pressure. Richardson immense again and Seaborne got in front of every delivery so Solent said. Not that fussed about Chaplow - everyone before hand said he should play because he'd give us more bite in midfield. That was certainly the case! Morgan will hope to get at least 20 mins on Tuesday. Who said we needed a new striker?!
Hanging onto a 1.0 lead can make all the difference if you want to do well in the league (I really mean win the league but we're not allowed to say that!). Putting away chances can make life easier though, especially when Barnsley had few chances until Chaplow got the red card. Well done lads. Just got to hang on till the end of the season now!
Keith Hill seems to agree with the commentary about our performance up until the Chaplow sending off. http://www.barnsley-chronicle.co.uk/sport/article/4341/hill-deeply-disappointed-at-saints-defeat?
Keith Hill - "I'm not angry, just very disappointed. Southampton are a good side but we did not perform, individually or collectively." I would not like to be a Barnsley player this evening...the shame and the booing from the home fans was very audible on the radio. I'm sure Keith Hill will improve things there, but I think this fixture at this stage of the season has worked out well for us. I hope we can take advantage of an Ipswich side still bedding in together
Glad that we've been so quick off the mark, because our schedule only gets more challenging from here. If we can end the month on 10 points or better and with a healthy squad, we'll be well set up for a memorable season.
