Of course they overpaid but history will now judge him far more favourably in light of the disastrous Pogba/Mourinho era

Rakatic yes, most definitely. Not sure Barca would part with him just yet though.
James has struggled to show anything like he did in the World Cup and that is against a lot of easier Spanish teams, doesn't mean he can't do it in the right team though.

Liverpool are keeping an eye on the 28-year-old winger, who is valued at £35million.
Manchester United have been keeping an abreast of his situation, and Jose Mourinho fuelled talk of a summer move for Perisic when he met the player’s agent.
Chelsea are also believed to be mulling over a bid, with Antonio Conte keen to make reinforcements.
And Lovren is in no doubt Perisic would be warmly welcomed were he to move to Anfield

Id agree and basically say anyone of this ilk is a vast improvement on where we are.
Rakitic is a brilkiant cm. James would be just a bit too expensive imo but still better tan what we have.
Where's the list of free transfers for the summer that normally gets sent around this time of year....it's nice to talk about rakatic and James But we'd better keep an eye on our plan B!

plan Z is michael keane with 12 months left on his contract. 90% of our targets have contracts running out rather than being right player for us.
Based on the last 2 years, this is more likely to be our plan A. We both know this
Arsene Wenger reveals Luis Suarez 'agreement' with Arsenal in 2013
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says there was an "agreement" in place to sign Luis Suarez in 2013.
It was reported that the Gunners tried to sign Suarez by bidding £1 over his £40,000,000 release clause.
Liverpool owner John Henry later revealed that Suarez did indeed have a £40m release clause, but the club opted not to sell the striker.
And Wenger has suggested Suarez almost joined the Gunners
He told beINSports: "He was very close [to signing for Arsenal]. We had an agreement with the player. We had been wrongly advised that he had a clause, with a minimal clause, but we had an agreement with the player. You can ask him.
"I'm convinced he wanted to join us, then they kept him one more year, improved his contract and promised to sell him the year later to a club abroad."
Suarez stayed with Liverpool for another season before joining Barcelona in a deal worth £75m.

So Wenger admits his penny pinching and weak will cost Arsenal the best player in the league

Sanchez has a year left on his contract and is 28. Can't see them getting much more than £40m for him.
Hazard is by far the better player in my opinion, and is younger with potential to develop still.
Id pay that meself for him and sell him on for 60 a day later.
Purely contract number that.
