Not only encouraging but also belief the regulars are fairly ****.

I know Sterling got the assist, but if he was playing for Saints or WBA there wouldn't be a major fuss over him and he would b in the periphery like Redmond. Then 'Pool would buy him and realise he was a bit ****.

You don't think it is odd that people form their opinion based on their dissapointment in the performance of past players and managers from years ago that aren't even in this squad, rather than, you know, actually watching the game and forming an opinion based on the current situation?

Maybe I am the odd one for not judging somebody based on the failures of their predecessors.

I watched the game. I judged on that. I then deduced that it's pretty much following the same pattern. It is my humble opinion that we didn't play that well. We dominated possession but didn't open them up and create as many clear chances as I thought we should. When we did, we didn't take them.

Not sure where you get people commenting and not watching the game.

I'll agree about Rooney and Portugal.

Rooney is an interesting case. Back then he looked like he could be a world class talent. Bags of ability, great first touch and a real game changer. In the last 5 years I'm at a loss to understand why he has deteriated so much and now can't trap a bag of cement. His second touch is a tackle these days. **

Going to respond to the rest of what I said or just one comment?

And as for that comment, of course realise people physically watch the game, but from their comments they may aswell not have.
 
Rooney was unbelievable in Euro 2004. I know it's all ifs and buts and doesn't mean **** blah blah blah! But I'm absolutely convinced were it not for that injury we go on to win that tournament where a lot of the best sides weren't great.
 
I think that Rooney would have achieved his potential if surrounded by the right players....it seemed as if he was trying to do too much. No one could complain about his effort, but running after everything meant he reduced his chances of being in the right place.

What part have I missed? I believe in responded to your point.

If you're looking to poke the sleeping fats (as per Fran), not happening today mate.

Not looking for anew arguement at all.

My main point is that it is quite obviously wrong to judge someone based on the failures of their predecessors. Which is what it seems you and many others are doing with Southgate and his new look squad.

No, you have taken that as our view. I am
judging on what I've seen and then comparing it to previous. I'm saying that the performance sunday was not good and then very much the same as I've witnessed before. I am giving Southgate a chance, however it appears you won't allow us to make comparisons to what we've seen before.

On the evidence I've seen so far (which is not a lot as he's not been there long, but give me a chance as I can only use the small sample I've seen so far).

You have your opinion. I have mine.

We did what was required. It was Southgate's first competitive fixture since getting the job full-time and we easily beat what was admittedly a poor side. I felt the selection of a 34 year old Defoe was vindicated by his goal. There is certainly room for improvement but considering it was a dominating 2-0 victory in the very early stages of his England career I don't think it warranted the negativity some have expressed.

As a nice side story, it was a nice touch for mascot Bradley to find that Defoe, the player who befriended him, was there to hold his hand.
