thats the problem.. no.

he's not very good at holding it up is he.

so while he does well coming off left and shooting and got goals in the lines of the 6 yard box arlier in season we need to have an actualy plan to help him get goals and we really don't seem to have one

City's goal last weekend was clearly thier game plan all game coming to fruition. We don't have a similar game plan for playing these sides.
Yeah, with Origi he made a bit of noise about not starting. He's been given ample opportunities and he's been quite poor since his last goal.

Since Christmas, we've gone about every game against a lower team with the same lifeless attitude. With the last couple of games I've thought beforehand that we must have learned the lesson by now - but still we do it all over again.
Until I see this team start with the same vigour that they show against top 6 sides, then I'll fear the worst. They really need to get their arses into gear.

They will <ok>

This argument sounds good until you actually examine it. There's an accepted wisdom that our problem is dealing with defensive teams and we play well against top teams because they're more open.
This is only partly true.
Leicester didn't sit back against us - even Burnley weren't all that defensive and we won more through luck than judgement. There will be further examples if you care to look for them.
It does come down to our attitude. Just look at the way we start a game - you can tell in the first 5 minutes whether or not we're going to struggle.
Why hasn't this problem been identified and rectified? I don't know, but I can fire the same question at your reasons for our difficulties.
Are we just going to sit back and accept that we're no good against a defensive team? If so we might as well pack up now, because we don't deserve a top place.
Whatever the problem, we should be much further along the road to sorting it out than we seem to be
.

This is exactly what we have been moaning about for the last few weeks. You are right. Whatever it is we should have sorted it out by now. Some call it a Plan B. I cannot see as an attitude problem , not when Klopp is our manager. He wouldn't have let it happen so many times.

The frustrating thing about the matches we have to play is that they are all winnable but we could drop points against all of them too. None of them we could say (Ive said bankers too many times in the past) this is guaranteed 3 points, because we are at home and it is a weak team. We even struggled against Burnley at home, but fortunately we got the 3 points <grr>

Any team which is so far ahead in the top 6 mini league should be chasing the title. we should were it not for our inability to put these minnows away.

I would say that 90% of the games we have to play are all going to be piss easy..... If we can just get the opening goal.

If we score in most of these games the narrow ultra defensive on the break mentality goes and we can then cut sides up.

But we have to get the first goal... and to do that we cannot be seeing guys like clyne back passing or lallana not really getting involved etc. A lot of our best players need to show their bravery and ability much more to carry the day IMO.

We don't need 10 men forward hoping for a break stuff, we need positivity and urgency from those who are forward and a solid screening game behind them.

cue can in the opposition box half the game v everton, clyne back passing to matip most of the day. coutinho sitting on half way line afraid of a kick... etc etc.

81 points then. <party>

I'd chew yer arm off for 81 points.

As i said.. if we get that opening goal....

Every time i listen to results on radio/sky etc I just think.. oh chelsea/utd/city/ whoever have scored... game over. usually when these sides get a goal v small sides it really is a mountain to climb for a small side.

I think LFC particularly need that first goal. We find it very difficult to break a massed defence. Once we score that first goal, we can see the team relax and the game opening up as they seek that equaliser.

We concede the first goal, the opposition gets to defend even more with 11 players in the penalty area. That's where a Lukaku (or even Benteke <yikes> ) could prove useful.

yup if refs would just give us that 1 goal head start things would be easy.

Hence i fail to understand why we won't run at teams with pace and try win a few more pens. its not like it doesn't work for us :)

And yeah if we concede one its game over usually.
